Should my cycling gloves match my bike or my kit?

So I'm in the market for a new pair of gloves. My current pair are about 4 years old and have absolutely no padding left in the palms whatsoever. My brother jokingly asked me the other day if my new pair will match my bike or my jerseys, to which I replied that it doesn't really matter, they're just gloves. He came back with "well, I thought cyclists were OCD about their clothing matching and whatnot."

That got me to thinking (bad idea, I know LOL)...should gloves match up with your bike or kit, or does it truly not matter? I could kind of see it for matching my bike, I'd just need to get a pair with some red in them, but for jerseys? Right now I have 6 jerseys of varying color schemes and would need 3 to 4 pairs of gloves to make a match depending on what jersey I'm wearing.

Would love for hear y'alls thoughts on this. Should make for an interesting conversation, I think.

Black. It matches just about anything, plus it won't show the dirt and grease they're inevitably gonna get on them.

If you want them to match, get a matching color. If it makes no difference to you, don't worry about what others might be thinking.
I personally try to match my clothes when riding, even on the Mtb but I don't go out of my way to do so or sweat it when I don't.

Wear what makes you happy without breaking the bank

I used to be the clothing buyer for a chain of bike shops. I vote for multiple matching kit.

I tend to like when my kit, bike, helmet are color coordinated.
Oddly, I seem to be the only one - judging by the group rides I've been on so far.
Some of these people will wear seemingly any and all colors!

Gloves are one color, black. Anything else will look hideous within a few rides-- my wife's gloves have light gray leather on the palms, and they look terrible. I have five pairs of gloves, all different makes/models, but they are all black.

Unless you're on a team or otherwise sponsored and have to conform to a dress code, your gloves should match your preference or mood.

Whether or not it "matters" is dependent on how important approval from others is to you. Wear whatever you like and meets your needs.

Black work gloves with high-viz backs, and reflective material. Helps make signals viable in the dark, and rain.

I don't know why your gloves look "hideous" after only a few rides. My LG's look great after many rides. do you wash your bike? do you wash your hands? If you answered "no" to either question, that may be the problem.
