Test rode a Rocky Mountain Altitude, Specialized Stumpjumper and Kona Satori earlier in the day. Was strongly considering the Giant Trance as well. Decided on the 2019 Rocky Mountain Altitude A30. Was only able to ride for about 45 mins, after I bought the bike, but the ride definitely validated my choice. Riding in Salida, Colorado as you can see in one pic the smoke from the Decker fire that has been burned over 7,000 acres.

What a fantastic looking bike! Congratulations! 25 years ago I had a Rocky Mountain Vortex, which I really liked.

Congrats, looks like you lucked out where you ride. Is there winter riding over there?

Thanks qclabrat. Fortunately we have winter riding most of the time in Salida. The snow levels are low (7200 ft) here but 20 mins up the road (Monarch Mountain) the annually snow fall in in excess of 350 inches a year. Last year the mountain got 450 inches.

Now that you've had the bike for a bit, how are you finding the bike on the trails/rides? Any feedback?

So far so good. Although Ive been riding on steep and curving trails, I haven had the bike through a lot of rocks/bouldering, big drops and obstacles like fallen trees and such. What rocks I have encounters, the suspension soaked it up just fine. I need to ride a little bit more and on more difficult trails to offer better feedback.

I believe your Rocky Mountain bike has the Ride 9 System. I have mine set in the 9 position which has the steepest HTA at 66.1 degrees and the highest bottom bracket clearance. I think I may play with it and set it on the neutral position next. According to Rock Mountain, the 9 different settings changes the feel and reaction of the bike enough to make a difference.


With all that being said, I like the bike but have yet to appreciate all it offers.

Thanks! Now that I've ridden this bike for awhile, I'm very pleased with my choice. Its was tubeless ready so I switch to tubeless last week.

I swapped my tubed setup to tubeless too. Been running tubeless in my road bike for years, so I saw no reason not to go tubeless on the mtb.

NoWhammies: I set my Ride 9 System to position 5 (neutral) and it made a nice difference in handling for me. The shop had it set up in position 9 (steep). What position are your set at?

I have my bike setup in the neutral position as well. I haven't spent much time playing around with the different settings. I figure I'll get comfortable riding the bike first, then start to muck around with the Ride 9 system.
