I bought the best I could find for $20. I did some reviews and price comparisons....that it. I like the width of them. I like the little bolts that are the traction. That's the style, and that's alright.

However I noticed that it's only been a month, and I can feel the bearings starting to go out. My guess is that the bearings are worth pennies. My legs are starting to beef back up, and I've got pedals that can't take the rigid strain.

So I have to wonder...what would people that abuse their pedals buy...in a pricely picky sort of way. Those big price numbers on gear??? Those never ride good.

The only pedals you should buy if you want them to last are pedals with bearings that are easily serviceable and or replaceable. The rest are meant to be used then thrown away in my opinion.

Edit: Oh yeah. If your massive beefy guads are destroying pedals regularly, carry spares everywhere. I've had to pedal home on one pedal before, just sayin'.

Adding on to FBOATSB advice: Not unusual for new pedals to require adjustment prior to first use. And a check to be sure there really is adequate grease from the factory, too.

I've been using a pair of Sinz BMX pedals for a few years now. They look very similar to the Sun Ringle pedals posted earlier.

Not a pedal for the weight weenie but considering I'm 240+ they've held up well IMO. Pretty good size platform, pins and serviceable.

I was bruising around in the streets today listening to the creaking in the pedals getting worse. It's like riding junk. And I can feel it a little too...in my feet.

Then I realized it's probably not the pedals since there so new, but it's probably the bottom bracket since it's so old...I bet 30-40 years old.

Bearing rebuilds? Okay. I look it up on youtube, and see if I can learn that skill. I'll need to know since I like these ole "sort-of-mountain-bikes" for cheaply street busting every evening. The cheap parts are kind of fun to build around and stress test.

Got this $40 tool kit in the mail, and made the bottom bracket a relatively quick fix given it was my first shot at a BB. I wiped it, scrubbed it, renewed the grease, and it's riding better than before now. Creams are gone too. The drive train side crank simply fell off rather than being pulled off mechanically. I assume that was the source of the creaking.

Apparently old enough to rebuild a bottom bracket, but on the other hand, I did my first bb rebuild at the ripe old age of 12.

While I'm on the topic though I have been researching "bikology" off and hone here for the past few months. I used to just ride them, and the only thing to know was the flat tire if that ever happened. That was back when I was 12 and those years. I'm looking into all of the products, designs, their effects on the riders, how to manage, repair, and replace them, and there's the new era stuff and the old era stuff. There are kinds of bikes that I never heard of until the last few months. "Bikology" has become very specialist with certain bike types and products for specific feats that are trying to be achieved with them that I never imagined.

All of this seemed daunting at first, but I'm getting fairly accustomed. The info is becoming redundant now as I search and research.

And these new, high tech bikes...sheesh. These are like expensive, high tech, automobiles that require a level of part product, understanding, and expense that puts these things in a whole other level of sporting past time than I've ever been aware of.

And my reaction to that is "heeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllll nooooooooooooooooooo." I would never pay that much for a bike and all of the parts, repair, and maintenance that comes with that. It's too much tech...a burn barrel of cash being sooted out to some smart engineers and marketers.

I don't even like the suspension fork. Too many parts, too much more variability in the maneuver, strategy, combination over and between obstacles. It's added weight too, but I suppose if the bake was all carbo, added part weight wouldn't be a problem.

But hey...these days a bike comes 20-35 bucks on craigslist every week. You blow one out, switch the tubes, rack, lights, seat cover, grips, and whatever over, and away you go. I never have to worry about someone robbing the bike. LOL It's not a bike that can be resold for anything except maybe a few bags of groceries I suppose. They won't be making car payments with any of my wheels. And now I can maintain their munkey brackets. Woohoo
