The fall colors are starting to show in central Iowa. I tend to start riding my MTBs once the weather gets colder. They handle the leaves on the MUPs better and I like riding gravel in the fall as well. I took my 1992 Trek 950 out for a 20 mile ride yesterday: lots of fall colors, water views, and tall grass. I recently rebuilt the bike and I'm really enjoying the trekking bars. That is such an easy fix to add more hand positions to a MTB.

Sakatah Singing Hills Autumn Ride
This ride has become somewhat of a tradition with me. SSH is a 39 mile rail trail that mostly follows alongside MN Highway 60, about 40 miles south of the Twin Cities. There's really nothing special about it other than the fact that it shows an awful lot of what Minnesota is all about. Farms and lakes and prairies fill the roughly 10-miles between little towns, and the trail rolls right through the middle of it, just like the trains used to.
If you go to Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, and look up Sakatah Singing Hills Trail, you will see one of my photos, similar to the one above, on the front page of the site. I rode my Raleigh-Carlton Super Course roadster conversion that day. Today's ride was a bit faster and sportier on the Bianchi custom.
Still the yellow/orange theme continues. I know nothing of trees and foliage, but if I did, I suppose I could find some red leaves somewhere. Here on the SSH, however, it all looked pretty much like this:
So as I said up above, this part of Minnesota consists of farms:
lakes:
and prairies, (none of which were photogenic on this trip). But there are long, straight stretches between towns:
The MN DNR and counties are getting ready for winter, which means pulling the docks and piers out of the water:
But mostly, the day consisted of a lot of this:
... and this:
I wish Autumn would go on forever... I'm really not looking forward to winter this year. Only one bike for five or six months? Man, am I spoiled, or what?

I didn't realize how much flooding you had--my best friend lives in Monroe and has complained about rain, but not that much rain.

Greenway
I took the '85 Cannondale today; I have been "neglecting" it riding the road bike more. Short ride on the Clark's Creek Greenway in neighboring Charlotte,NC.

Green Bay trail on the North Shore of Chicago. Trying out my new Grand Prix. Nice ride with fat Cyclocross tires. Added the SKS "Sting Ray" fenders and a Simplex chainguard.

Great pictures, guys. I'm jealous of the fall foliage colors. In SoCal fall is mostly about brush clearance. It seems our four seasons here are Winter, Spring, Summer and Fire! We had a great ride out thru the Somis foothills east of Ventura. Started in Camarillo, up thru Somis to Balcom Cyn, then back. 37 mile club ride on the '73 Super Course. I was on the only old steel, among several modern carbon and a couple of aluminum bikes. Perfect weather, mid 60s to low 70s, cloudy and a little breezy. A great respite from the crazy winds, 90° plus temps, and fires literally at our door step. I stopped by the local produce stand on the way home to stock up. Fall is a great time to ride, when its not on fire.
I know big big is a no no. This bike and rider seem OK with it once in awhile.
Photo op at Underwood's produce stand.

Fall in Central IA
The fall colors really came in this week. I recently rebuilt my 1992 Trek 950 (one of the lugged MTBs) for path/gravel riding. The paths eventually get full of leaves and sticks this time of year. Plus my favorite ride has some gravel portions as well. I rode 30 miles today with around 1500 feet of climbing today. I'm really enjoying the trekking bars on the bike.

Rode 66 miles up north. We had a ton of rain yesterday and the roads were still wet, but the season is fading fast, so I try to get out when I can. Headwind going out and back thanks to the storm - grrr.
Lots of wet leaves down, which covered the frame and made things slick.
There was a foot of water in the underpass on the way to Lake Bluff.
The Superior proved to be sea-worthy. Made it out the other side - didn't see any fish while I was in there.
A little bundled up, temps topped out in the mid-50s by the time I got home. Beautiful fall day, all in all.

Sort of. The Centennial Trail is a few meters to the right of where I was standing when I took the shot. That bright spot in the middle of the shot is a rise in the trail. This is just barely north of where the trail crosses Three Lakes Rd.

You guys are posting some terrific fall pics!
There's not much color at this point at least not that I've seen in the Dallas, TX area.
I did get in a nice 30 miler in wonderful 60's to low 70's temps.
Met a friend and rode out to White Rock Lake
which is a beautiful area within the city.
I'm on my Trek 950.

I took the first train up to Poughkeepsie, NY the other day and rode 50 miles through some of the most scenic terrain around. New Paltz, Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park. Hopefully next week I can head back with more time and a route planned out to maximize my time.

Quick ride home from work. Got news of brush fire near my home and cut the photo shoot short. Heres the only one I took.
