Brakepads for my BMX ("Harobikes Backtrail")
Hey guys, about 6 months ago I bought a used "Harobikes Backtrail" (that's what it says on the stickers).
I've only recently started using it more and more (for transportation only, I don't do tricks). And I noticed the brakes aren't being as effective as they used to be, so I think that means I need new brakepads?
I was thinking of getting some off eBay, but I'm not sure what to get, can someone point me in the right direction? My budget is $1 to $10.
What should the pads be made out of rubber?
I saw these and also these ones
Ps. I really don't know anything about bikes, so I would be behind on vocabulary such as "10 speed".

Don't use those second ones, the ones with the metal on the outside. They look like cheap junk. Assuming you don't have painted or powdercoated rims, I'd recomend Cool Stop BMX pads, in the salmon colored compound. If they are painted or powdercoated, I understand the Odyssey clear brake pads are good for that.
Before buying new brake pads, make sure that the old ones don't just need cleaned. Clean the rim sidewalls, while your at it. Isopropyl alcohol is the best thing to use on them.

I'd try to identify the specific model of u-brake and replace that pad with at least the ones that came with them. I believe Haro uses Tektro u-brakes. For mine, I had to put a new u-brake on the bike and it was a Dia Compe AD-990. Yeah, definitely clean them up first, maybe even adjust them ?

Okay cool, i will clean/ possible adjust them and see what happens.
But if I do need to get new ones, are these the ones you're talkin' about?
Not sure what they mean by V-type...
-shrug- I don't know what U-brake means... but I might not have to if cleaning them works

Google u-brake that's the best I can suggest for seeing if that's what you have ? I suggested getting the Tektro replacement pads for the specific brake model you have. I figure the pads are of a specific dimension of length & width, not to mention material hardness and other properties. That might make a difference for the performance of the brakes for that specific caliper ? I'm not saying there aren't better replacement pads that would be an upgrade ? But at least with the OEM pads, you get what Tektro or whoever else may have made them intended for stopping power.
