I did not time the gears. I was alarmed when I read your post and the supporting information. I reopened the hub and lined up the gears as is recommended. That work delayed completion, but I imagine was well worth it.

Glad it was helpful. If the gears are not timed, they still turn, but the teeth do not mesh up correctly. As a consequence they wear quickly once the hub is put into service. You can feel the difference in mesh pretty easily with the hub apart.
