Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have one on my BMC but never found it to be very useful, to be honest. I never bothered to install one when I was building my BH

Nope, the only battery fields are still the computer and phone ones.

Not sure if I’m reading this right, but on my 2016 Scott addict 15 with rim brakes I use my left shifter to page through my Garmin. I’m setup for synchro shift 2 which allows for that. Up/down on my left shifter pages through the Garmin while my right shifter goes through the gears. Works really great. I also have a 2020 specialized roubaix with the brifters and use the buttons on the hoods to control the pages on the Garmin, (non synchro shift) I find the Scott easier to use than the buttons on the hoods.

I have a page on my 530 that includes the battery level of all my devices: Battery (530), Gear Battery, Light Battery (Varia RTL 510). Maybe you have a different Garmin or other than Garmin brand lights.

I use the hood controls to cycle through pages especially on rides with my wife to see where she is to meet up with her when I do a side loop to let her catch up. The D-fly is inexpensive in my opinion and is well worth even at a much greater price. I'd add it to any bike that has hood controls.

Edit: Not directly related to the subject, but just had the 530 notify me that the HR battery was low. Wasn't aware of that feature.

Can't justify buying this. I plug my junction box in my laptop from time to time to see if there's updates.

I don't need to see the gears on my computer.

if you have a di2 bike the $60 for the d-fly unit is nominal. IF it drains battery faster I don't recognize it, maybe you will have to charge bikes battery every 1.8 months vs every 2.2 months????

how I use it with my r8070 groupset-
- can connect via bluetooth to my iPhone's etube app to make changes or update components (otherwise I have to borrow a windows laptop which i don't own)
- garmin displays what gear I'm in
- tells me gear ratio for each gear combo
- can control lights via hood buttons
- can start and stop ride timer on garmin with hood buttons
- can change screens on garmin with hood buttons-double tap takes me directly to map screen
- when adjusting derailleurs can see adjustments on garmin
- gives me battery level for di2
- rubs my feet at night

plus more i'm sure i forgot
I like it and use it a lot-you don't have to, but please don't tell me how to think or feel.

Another fan of the D-Fly here for many of the reasons listed above (programming hood buttons, seeing my current gear, programming auto-sync setting via app). I believe the mobile app was updated just after I installed the unit, so I only know its features (and none really of the previous version. Still learning more about what the app does, too.

I've got to amend this since I realized that long-press also performs the up and down functions on the Wahoo. I found it super useful on the map screen to toggle zoom levels.

The Ion RT 200 is perfect for when you're out around twilight or after dark with proper street lighting - it's more about being visible and legal compliance than seeing the road, although in a pinch I'm sure you could limp home with it on a dark backroad. For the latter I have a Garmin UT800 - it has a ton of smart features, none of which I use. I just manually turn it on as needed, either flash or low to be seen, or high to see the road in front of me.

Both mount easily to a K-Edge combo out front mount. The Ion RT with a small adapter, the UT800 directly. The UT800 also comes with a Garmin mount adapter. (Edit: seems there are different models with different mount kits.)

Thanks I think I'll end up going with the Ion. It'll do what I need. And yes, I plan to grab the Blendr adapter and connect it to my K-Edge!

I have a favour to ask anyone with a D-fly unit. The next time your Di2 battery level is showing solid red, can you tell me what the percentage battery is showing on your Garmin/computer of choice?

Thank you.

I'd be happy to do that for you...except that I monitor the battery percentage on my Garmin, and based on lessons learned painfully (Di2 single speed is just single speed)...when my Di2 battery percentage hits 20-25% on the Garmin, I charge it back up. I can't remember the last time I used the Junction A to check the battery charge.

It may be a while, but I'll check it out and report back. I have a Wahoo Bolt.
