My latest purchase: a pair of new Campagnolo Calima's for by Bianchi Via Nirone 7. Cheap wheels, but bomb-proof, and an excellent replacement for the stock Shimano R501's. I'm using the bike for bikepacking adventures, and I equipped them with a pair of comfy Vittoria Rubino Controls.

I l-o-v-e the new wheels.

I bought a Specialized Phenom Expert saddle for my mountain bike. I haven't been riding it much but the saddle I have on it is the original saddle and it's starting to come apart. I'm sure it's also pretty heavy so this should drop a little weight off the bike as well as make things more comfortable. I have the same saddle on my road bike and liked it so much I decided I should have the same one on both bikes.

Definitely for more positions. I was getting a lot of numbness and pain in my wrists and hands. Since I got the aerobars, no aches or tingles!

I installed a cable guide on my bike. It's a 1971 Raleigh Super Course which originally routed the cables above the BB, but I'm using a modern drivetrain now. I had to drill a hole and tap threads into the shell.

Blackset race 24 (alloy, not carbon) wheels with Dura ace hubs. I weigh 220 so I went with 32/32 spoke set up. 1680 grams.

Couldn't swing the funds for a Dura ace cassette so I bought an Ultegra 11-32 and a new Dura Ace chain. Finally, I picked up a set of Continental 5000's.

What do you guys think? Should I have saved up a bit more and gone with the Dura Ace crank?

No, Ultegra is just as good and the weight to cost ratio for Dura Ace is ridiculous compared to Ultegra.

No need for disc on my road bike, have been riding rim brakes just fine for 50 years. I currently live in Texas which is flat flat flat. Maybe back in SF would I want disc for road but never needed it.

Now for a gravel or MTB, of course ya gotta have disc. I also have a hybrid I ride on the street if I ride in the rain then yes I will needs its disc brake. The most important component of your braking system is your hand. I have been fine with crappy TEKTRO R540 and am swapping out to Ultegra. That is plenty enough upgrade. I will be in the market for a Gravel or 29er hardtail if business improves (it will) and of course it will have disc.

These rims fit my need perfectly. I don't race so I don't need carbon aero but I am a bit of a weight weeine. I need strength and durability. Most of all I am a hub *****. My bike is in the middle of my livingroom, and is the center of my world. Back when I had Phil Wood, each night before going to bed I would gently spin the wheels looking lovingly at his beautiful signature spinning round and round. I loved them deeply but it ended in a messy divorce.

In anticipation of my new hubs I am studying Japanese, so that we can have a loving and this time permanent relationship.

You are correct 90%. The dif between the cranks is definitely not worth the money, at least for me. Same with pedals. The Dura hubs really are a breed apart, though, IMO. As stated my eventual goal on this bike is all Ultegra in most places. The order or replacement is wheels>crank>brakes. The bike was originally a big part 105, a seaming steal for the money but there were lots of problems. The first thing I did was swap the 105 derailleur for an Ultegra, and picked up a Dura Ace Chain. The bike has a carbon frame I like a lot, so that is why I keep fixing/upgrading.

I had some of the Tri Color 600 hubs from the 90's that were just fantastic and I recently sold them on eBay as I did not have a need for them any longer. They were just as smooth today as they were new. Shimano always did make great hubs. I only use Dura Ace chains with Shimano, so with you there.

For $45 and usually free shipping the dura ace chains are no brainers. Unless you have had then, really high end hubs (Chris King etc.) are like pieces of jewelry to me. I still have my watch collection from back when I actually made a living, and hubs are like a good Panny. It is something that is worth maintaining and something that can also be built into a new wheelset or even passed down to your kids. High end watches (I consider Rolex mediocre) and hubs have souls.
