This year's Stalen Ros bike show and swap meet had a Show-Us-Your-Dutch-Bikes theme. Yours truly drove the miles, oggled the bikes and took some pictures.

Vittorio
From Alkmaar, a 1980's Strada, probably built by Frank Groot, the "Zoon" (son) in "Jan Groot & Zoon":



JABO
1960s, would be my guess for the build date of this Jabo Race. Built by Jasper Bouma:



Olympia Sport
Don't know anything about this brand, other than that I'd love one of these in black.



Germi
From Hilversum. Sources say they were built by Jasper Bouma, and painted by Gerrit de Weerd, the owner of the Germi brand.



Springfield
From Haarlem. Originally sold by Willem Metz, later by Fred Hoogland. The frames were reputedly built by Jasper Bouma and Jacobus de Jong (aka "Witte Ko"):



Zieleman
Ko Zieleman is an Amsterdam frame builder whose bikes have been shown here before.



Rob van Oel
This was a nice surprise. The second one I've ever seen (I own the other one). From Gouda:

Locomotief, Bergh Sport
The green stayer's bike in the rear is a Locomotief. Bertus Slesker was responsible for the Locomotief racing bikes, and when the firm was taken over by Gazelle, he was the man who set up the race department there that would become famous for the Champion Mondial.
Like Locomotief, Jaap van den Bergh of Bergh Sport conducted his business in Amsterdam.




Aandewiel and Peka
Two other Amsterdam brands.



Stephi-Sport
Another Amsterdam brand. One source suggests the bikes were built by Jaap van de Bergh of Bergh Sport.

Eroba
From Echt in Limburg. Sad story. The brand dates from the 1930s and the first generation of owners made very nice, championship-worthy bikes. The next generation was apparently more into money than into bikes, and expanded the brand into oblivion.



Chr Jeucken
Another frame builder form Limburg. From Venray this time. Very small brand.

(BTW, the bike in the foreground is a Serier. Peter Serier built frames for Presto en Peka, and was hired by Giant when they set up shop in Europe in the eighties.)



Joco
A rather famous brand from Amsterdam. These two may well have been built by Jasper Bouma, who started his career there.



RIH Sport
The most famous of the Amsterdam brands, although this particular example was built under license by Fongers in Groningen in 1966.


De Mol
Or "The Mole". Apparently a big racing brand in the 1930s, '40s and '50's. My favorite bike of today's show, if only because of the head badge.

I'm pretty sure the older Aandewiel frames were built by Piet Aandewiel sr. Whether his son Piet jr, who took over the business, continued building frames I don't know. Maybe @Woutervanwijk knows more?

I have only the one picture of the Reco, but I did take some more shots of the Rob van Oel, so I could compare it to my own. They are not very good, but it was difficult to get between the bikes without knocking them over like dominoes.

Chicago Al 

I agree on both counts, and the 'de mol' also looks like one that a more sensibly-sized cyclist could ride.

The yellow/red Zieleman looks very much like one that is shown on the velospace site, one of the most beautiful (and unusual) color schemes I've ever seen on a bike.

(If any of our Nederlander brethren see EITHER of these bikes for sale in a 52-54cm size please let me know. I can't follow marktplaats every day!)

Indeed Maarten. Piet Sr. was the builder fo the oldest frames. His grandson repares bikes and doesnt build frames (at this moment). You can read more here (in Ducth:Aandewiel | Klassieke Nederlandse racefietsen). But they continue to build until late 80s or ealry 90s. They only used to build frames on customer demand and for family or relatives. Piet sr. his grandson showed me a book with all the bikes the had been build from early 60s until they quit building frames. There were only 75 or some number like that frames built during that period. So quite scarce. Really funny that my own bike (://www.flickr.com/photos/dutchbiker/sets/72157637080503496/)is quite heavy while mounted with all top of the line Campa record parts. But the bike weighs like 11.5 or 12.0 kgs (frame 59ct). Also kind of a anachronism: build in 1979 and finished with old school pinstriping

Thanks for chiming in. Wow, I didn't know they were that rare! Regarding the weight: at least a pound more than I would have expected. It makes you wonder what that rear triangle is made of.

Thanks for covering this one Maarten! I feel bad missing out after three years of attending the metroplolitan Neerkant and its fine after-show patatje oorlog. Your pics and excellent brand-references (to be googled until the end of time) are a joy to behold and gasp at on my bikeless Tuesday evening. You saved the day!
