That's a good deal, $45 for that pile. I like the red frame with the chrome socks on the chain/seat-stays

Check out this minty gem. Love the comment about the "ding" in the top tube. Really? That frame is totalled now. Hate to see what the seller considers a real dent.

All you have to do is wait for next winter...
Then put the bike outside in the cold... and it will be good as new!!!

This is either in the running for worst CL pic of the week or an Impressionism Masterpiece...

THRUSTER XT2100 Cross Country, 21 speed, By KENT, 17in, Nice Cnd'n.

THRUSTER XT2100 Cross Country, 21 speed, By KENT, 17in, Nice Cnd'n. - $55

A decent 21 speed bike.. 30 inches from ground to top of seat post.. Crank to top of seatpost is 17 inches.. so it's a medium height. Good looking purple with ?custom blue/green shocks/front fork.. Looks like nice components.. One Schwinn tire in good shape, and a seat/saddle which says "Schwinn Approved." Very nice tires ( Front is 26x1.95 and rear is 26 x 2 ), Tubes hold air fine.. no leaks. I've ridden it for a week, and have tweeked most of the bugs, and lubricated it..Front wheel has a wobble (not bad, about half an inch) I don't know how to adjust spokes and remove wobble , I could learn, and might.. Riding is NOT affected.. Rear brakes work fine... Shifting is smooth with well done components.. Sorry, but I don't have better picftures.. am working on it..thanks to a recent theft I'm operating w/o a phone... so.. I'll check email often.. and you can leave your number and I'll get to you on a borrowed, or pay phone .. OR you can leave a voicemail at my # and I'll try to get back to you... I may be able to deliver/show bike if you cant get around.. Shoot me you r address and good time to meet.. Communication sucks w/o phone.. .. Thanks.. Bill

One thing I can tell from the picture is that under the seatpost it looks kind of reddish-brown. I wonder if the reason he gave heights to top of seatpost is that height can never be changed?

probably a pretty good bike. Would be nice to know what kind of frame is under that paint, but fork crown looks nice, cranks are fluted, seatstays are slender enough to indicate somebody built with care (otherwise they might have crumpled by now)

NO!!!!

Look at the rear dropouts.

Pressed steel dropout.
Claw Derailleur.
Looks like the tubes have been smashed onto the dropouts.

It is probably just one's typical Dept store bike. Also lists 27" tires in the ad, so dates it to probably early 80's.

OK, I can see that it's a claw derailleur, but the bike I got from my dad also used a claw derailleur, and that was a Reynolds 531 high-end frame with campy components.

How do you tell pressed vs forged dropouts by eyeball -- thickness?

Flat or not.

Meanwhile, here's something I can't figure out. Same seller has a tremendous mishmash of bikes in this ad including an Allez and another Diamondback Master TG. Two in one week? Why is it half painted black? Fortunately this one is not my size. Something for everyone. But here's the really confusing one. Is it a junior size SS? Or is the perspective screwy?

Flat on those...
But, in general, flatter, + uniform thickness.

I suppose the dropout shape may not make a huge difference, but it is an indication of the value of the frame.

Perhaps the one exception is that many rear pointing "track" dropouts were rather flat (not the standard C-shaped horizontal dropouts).

Also *most* forged dropouts have wheel alignment screws.

Yes, an odd selection.

Something looks wrong with the seatpost, and perhaps the clamp on this bike.

Some seats point down. Some point up.
And bar tape is a mess.

I don't think I'd trust his "tuning" to be any more than dusting the cobwebs off and airing up the tires.

Yes, for horizontal dropouts, at least for the mid 60's though early 80's.
I've never been convinced the adjustment screws did much but get in the way, although I don't ride SS.
Semi Vertical???
Vertical - No.

CrossCheck includes dropout screws, I like them. I can set them to guarantee a centered rear wheel every time, although I guess a carefully-enough built frame should also guarantee you can just pull the wheel all the way back and be centered.

Ski-Zoom Ski Bike - Snow or Dunes - Fun and Dangerous!

Ski-Zoom ski bike, would be a blast in the snow or on sand dunes

Pic isn't very good, it's nicer than the pic makes it look.

$50. I'm open to bicycle-related trades (and possibly tools, antique bottles, and a treadmill)

Missing a seat, but I will include a banana seat, you can probably mount it with some creativity at the hardware store

The front handlebars are kind of just rusted on, they should be removed (PB Blaster?) and properly reinstalled with a bolt. Wouldn't be hard.

If I end up fixing the seat or handlebars, the price goes up to $100... Get it now while it's cheap!

And am I going blind? Where are the brakes on this bike? I see one brake cable coming out of a lever, but no sign of calipers anywhere.

Is there a "standard" for wheel placement in the dropouts?

I've always liked to set mine quite far back with the thought that it improved chain wrap, and hopefully minimized skipping of teeth on the cluster.

I missed that... Perhaps one just adds a few drops of superglue to the freewheel... and there is no need for brakes

What about this one from that same batch of "tuned" bikes.

Where's the cassette?
Love the seat angle.
Pads on the rear brakes?

Perhaps definition of tuned up...

"Hey, Joe. This wheel fits this frame!!!!"

And the clearance between the front wheel and down tube looks pretty minimal. I can't say the fork is bent for sure, because I have been wrong before, but I'm guessing it could be.

That looks like it would be fun, if only we got a little more snow here, but there are always the mountains.

The seat is awfully low, at least for an adult, but a low center of gravity would be good. Is it made for a banana seat?

It could use some foot pegs, perhaps mounted up near the head tube.
