Pinarello Prince vs. Orbea Orca vs. Cervelo S3 vs. Parlee Z1
I am going to upgrade from my current bike to one of the following: 09 Pinarello Prince, 09 Orbea Orca, 09 Cervelo S3, or a Parlee Z1. I am looking for a bike that is fast without a harsh ride, but not too plush. I am not into racing, however I just want to go as fast I can on my weekend rides. I ride for pleasure, fitness, and to lose weight. As an architect the aesthetic of the bike is important. I would appreciate your insights into how these great bikes compare.

At least be discrete when you troll... Try again, but a little, uh, less maybe...
Maybe you could try "I saw this 08 Prince on Craigslist for $75 cash now. Do you think it's a bargain?" or possibly "I ran my Cervelo through a woodchipper last night, what kind of glue should I use to fix it?"

if you're serious...you should eliminate the Orca and S3 off the bat...both are harsh for non-racer. The Prince is actually quite comfy. And, of course, the Z1 can be whatever you want it to be...as long as you tell Bob Parlee exactly what you want in a frame.

Yeah, this thread goes something like, "I'm not a racer, but I want to buy a race bike." Uh yeah.

Orbea's are famous for fast without a harsh ride. I have rode several Orcas and they by far had the best ride for a fast bike. They are not the stiffest in the world but they are light, fast, and comfy.

The original Orca was comfy. Later generations I felt were a bit harsh. The new 2009...everything I've read, it'll leave you for dead on the side of the road and laugh at your carcass

The beautiful thing about cycling is that there are many good ways to enjoy it. Does everyone that buys one of those bikes race bicycles? Of course not. This is a wonderful time for bicycle technology. If I choose to take advantage of it, why the negativity on the part of some posters?

All good choices. But seriously, are you anti the Madone? If so, why?

I think that the S3 is a beautiful bike, but I've heard that it's a harsher ride than the R3.

I have a Pinarello F4:13 which is the same geometry as the Price. I really like it. Unfortunately I haven't ridden any of the others to compare it to.

Well, sure, but so were the 1960's. Who knew then what would be coming down the pike? Likewise the 1890's. That's the marvelous thing about technology - whatever you've got now is always the most wonderful it has ever been! Knee-jerk retrogrouchery aside, I mean. Practical parts and bikes (meaning not the kind of stuff anyone in this forum uses) are more available to the cycling masses now than at any other time in the past. It just isn't pretty enough, I guess.
