This is totally the time of year to "see stuff."

As the eagle population continues to recover, their territories have edged closer to populated areas. They don't seem to be bothered by the human activity going on around them. I remember when warning signs were posted in a 1/2 mile radius around an active nest to warn people to stay away so as not to disturb the breeding pair. I live near Lake Erie and there are 90 nests in my county. Some are quite visible from the road. 4 or 5 are within a 2 mile radius of my house.

Yep, there are plenty of eagles around there. 👍 I rode out around Presque Isle State Park a few times, to see them. My late mother’s house is in Erie, PA, right across the street from the Erie Insurance campus. They just keep growing & growing. 🤔🙄


I just got to the Collier Tunnel, somewheres near the Oregon State line. I was surprised to see phone service here. A few miles back, was Panther Flat, which I camped near last night. 🙄

And last but not least, check out this old REI down parka I scored, back in Crescent City as I was leaving, for $14!!! 😎😁😎 The tag says AUG 78, which is right around when I was starting my senior year of high school. 😁

It seems this happens every year. This guy just shows up in early October and vanishes again after November 1st. He likes the rear seat on the Crescent. Reminds me of a limerick my Father used to teach us:

Last night I saw upon the stair
the little man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today.
Oh, how I wish he'd go away.




A guy once saw it and asked me "who is that?"
"That's the previous owner."
"Really?" he said in a very serious tone. I let the conversation drop.

I used ride with gps to map this route it was one they already had and I just changed the start and stop point. we were on a great forrest trail that started somewhat paved then paved then dirt and rock and everything in-between for about 8 miles up. there were offshoots that there was no way to get the tandem up and it lopped and the path it looped too was a narrow and way to steep path to ride the tandem on. I didn't to even know it but we went by the cemetery my grandma is in. we have done more climbing y about 500 feet but this was a steady up hill pretty much the whole way. we missed a turn and gone down faster but then had to ride on the streets back where we started the climb. ended up being 45 miles total. may be the last day this year we could ride this path when it gets muddy it wont work on the tandem. serious drop-off on this ride but not like we were right on the edge. I wonder how many tandems have come up here? I bet we were the only ones on a tandem that use this path.

This past Monday we found this goldenrod at the edge of the Marsh on Assateague Island.

I almost ran over this little guy in southeastern Colorado last week. I couldn’t see a rattle and thought he was just a bull snake but he had a heart shaped head and he buzzed that tail as fast as he could. He just didn’t have rattles yet.



In another area, I looked over a cliff...not something that I’m really in the habit of doing and noticed a limestone layer exposed by Carrizo Creek. It had kind of an odd pattern on it.



Sure enough, those are dinosaur tracks. At least 2 individuals, probably sauropods of some kind.



I went down to the tracks and on the way back up noticed this




Rocks don’t pile themselves. In the area, some sheep herders make pens out of piled up rocks but this wall didn’t enclose anything. It’s part of a game trap with a jump at the end. It’s likely for big horn sheep. I’ve seen these walls in a couple of other places in Colorado.

Riding home from work, saw this magnificent bird. As I rode up alongside we stared at each other.

it reminds me a bit of when I saw two coyotes in a field as I rode past.
Normally, coyotes will run off when they see me.... these two didn't budge.
It's a little unnerving to realize that you might not be at the top of the food chain, or might required to defend your position.
