I remember playing soccer in cotton shorts and underwear when I was little, it was uncomfortable. There are "norms" in sportswear for a reason (most of the time).

I can't help but think there is some sort of insecurity behind all of your criticisms of people wearing kits. Any "kitted" cyclist who criticizes you for wearing street clothes is just as stupid as you are for criticizing them.

I stopped buying bibs of whatever team/club I am on (have only been on a real team once) because the fit and comfort seems to be variable. So I buy whatever plain black bibs fit me best, and the jersey of said club.

A true team will pay for all of your clothing, helmet, shades, race entry etc, and often provide you with a bike to ride. These are typically restricted to the elite level (P/1/2). During my one season at this level I absolutely wore team everything because it was a stipulation of receiving all of that free **** in the first place.

Now I'm just a complacent club riding (Adam's Ave for your San Diegans) cat3 who wears whatever the **** he wants.

And whatever I want is bibs and a jersey. With gay ass shaved legs and a generally preened appearance, of course.

I commute in black lycra shorts and a neon yellow (no logos) jersey. Because

1. Comfortable. Especially in the warm weather of summer.
2. VISIBLE. I've been hit before, so I cover myself in the neon yellow and flashing lights for visibility.
3. Comfortable, really.

For me, it's usually a generic lightweight cotton shirt, short-sleeved this time of year. Lycra-esque (but not shiny! it burns!) pants. Photo here for the clicking. Don't push, I might fall over.

I wear whatever on short rides with the grandkids. Lycra for longer rides. I wear whatever jersey I like, black bibs. I've found the more expensive stuff to be better than the cheap stuff I've tried. Quite happy with the Hincapie bib shorts, Castelli, Colnago.

A cotton t-shirt gets drenched with sweat pretty quickly here in Alabama. Same for cotton shorts or jeans or socks. There's a lot of clothing out there that's hipster approved in the required urban camoflage colors of gray, brown and black that won't leave you a sweaty, sticky mess. Who wants to get banned from the coffee shop?

I wear clipless shoes with spd pedals.

My order from Aliexpress came in today. For $30 shipped (jersey & bib) I am not disappointed. Top is a bit loose but I sized up since I gained some weight after my shoulder surgery; when I lose it I will probably have to get a size down.

I have a couple of jerseys and bibs if i ever feel the need to have my dignity stripped away from me by my friends who don't even know how to ride bikes. Usually I ride in clothing that will not result in road rash if I go down. Mainly pants and jackets like Dickies stuff that holds up relatively well. Just gotta watch out for the chain ring.

People need to get over themselves and stop judging other people for doing their own thing. If you're not comfortable wearing bibs and jersey on your rides, fine, don't wear them. There's no law that requires you to do so. However don't go start knocking other people for wearing bibs and jerseys because it makes them comfortable. Society tends to build "norms" around every subject/topic that exist and people becomes a "sheep" to the current norm/fad. Wear what's comfortable to you, not what other people are wearing or saying. I used to wear running shorts and a T-shirt on my rides. However, it eventually became clear to me that my running shorts is getting in my way when I get back on the saddle and I need bibs. When I started bibs, I realized I need pockets to carry things. That's when I started wearing jerseys. After a while, I realized I was missing out wearing bibs and jerseys as they are a lot more comfortable to ride in.

I don't much like the way padded shorts feel, feels like they negate having a cutout which makes them uncomfortable. I mostly wear microfiber compression briefs and gallery. No shirt most the time, it just gets sweaty and smells.

I've had 2 pair for the last year now and they seem to be in the same condition as when I purchased them, although it is a thinner fabric so it did have me worried, especially because of the cost of the shorts themselves. I felt comfortable enough with their durability though after 9 months to order 3 more pairs when they were on sale.

I just wanted to report back on a couple of skinsuits I bought from Montonsport(China). After reading through this thread I decided to pull the trigger on 2 skinsuits and emailed Montonsport on sizing. They recommended to go one size larger than I normally wear and I'm glad I did. Delivery was surprisingly fast, took a total of 8 days(free shipping) to get here which made it just in time for my first 40k tt yesterday. Quality is good and they look good and the pad felt better than my team race kit which is made by Mt.Borah. I would definitely recommend Montonsport cycling clothing for anyone on a budget and going to order up a few more skinsuits.
