Someone mentioned security in the garage; I hang my bikes as I mentioned, I run a long cable through my bikes and lock it. Cable is not real high security but they have to break into my garage, then cut the cable, a lot of work to do with a high risk of getting caught as time elapses while my alarm is calling the cops.

Dont be this guy. 8 bikes, 4 on a Harbor Freight t-bar dolly, 4 on J-hooks, + 2 cars and laundry, in a two car garage. Thinking about a Tuff-shed.

4 hooks that hang bikes from the rear wheel.
1 bike hung by both wheels

I made wheel hooks from wire coat hangers and put fuel hose over the hook to protect them. I have enough for 8 wheels.

the back of my garage has an enclosed workshop type area. I keep my bikes in there. I made a few stands with pVC pipe and board. (from a seth's bike hacks video)

my father in law almost everytime they visit says that we have a huge garage for era our house was built in. I like the extra space.

He's probably OK for now ... I'm guessing he's got another wall the opposite side of the room and then he can start with the ceiling

Yep, that's what I use. I hang the bikes upside down by the wheels with the bikes facing opposite directions for handlebar clearance.

My trick to keep my property in my garage from being stolen is to shut the garage door when I'm not in the garage. And lock the door(s).

Of course, I see many of my neighbors that leave their garage doors open all day and into the night. It's like they've never lived in a city or had anything stolen before.

I keep my bikes in the house.Garage doors are the most proficient way to gain entry into your space/house.All bikes are stored on the wall like pieces of art without wheel sets.I use a roller that attaches to my chain-stay for the chain. My only problem now is storing wheel sets without damaging the spokes in my garage.I have a few ideas that I’ve been tossing around in my head.
My reasoning is if someone breaks into your house they may pass up your beloved frame-set since it has no wheels, same if they got into your garage it’s just wheel sets no frame can’t ride it.

I have three of those HF cycle trees. The one in the garage is the old style that I've had for 15 years or so. They each have 6 bikes on them. I haven't found a better way to keep as many bikes in as small of a footprint.

Six bikes fit without taking up too much wall space.

Any suggestions for an apartment? I have an apartment in my college town and am looking for a good option. Only small holes are allowed in the walls.

I have had three bicycles stolen from my garage, mine stay in my house, and it is getting rather crowded. garages work for cars and motorcycles, not so much for bicycles.

My apartment is such that in order to store my bike efficiently I need to hang it by one wheel. Does anyone in this thread have experience hanging their bicycle by one wheel without any other support? I just want to make sure the weight of the bike pulling down from one point couldn’t possibly stress the wheel or fork? Might be a dumb question but I want to be sure!

I use this one in my basement. I've had 6 bikes on it, but they are tight, and you don't want to move it around much that way. But it's priced well, and is a lot more sturdy than I expected from HF. I also admit to having their 2 bike hitch rack, and it's not bad. But the rubber cradles will fail in less than 2 years. I replaced them with cradles from an Allen trunk rack.

Just some scrap lumber I had around. Each one was slightly different. I planned on making a nice looking of whichever version worked the best but they all worked fine. I haven't made the final ones yet.

A wheel supports you on the bike. A 30# bike hanging from it is fine. I've had bikes hang for years by a wheel - no problem.

The rubber coated hooks have worked perfectly for my bike storage needs for decades. Just make sure you screw the hooks into a ceiling joist.
