Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

About 2km, but then, it is about 5km to lunch. Further, I do not like walking; I have a bad knee, and it just plain hurts.

Mine is a 2.5 mile mostly up hill to work mostly downhill to home. Two nights a week I go home via the rec center for Yoga and then its an 18.5 day I ride 365 haven't let rain/snow/hot stop me, though I do draw the line at thunderstorms/high winds. Yesterday I grabbed a ride to work (thunderstorm flooding everything in the AM) but took my bike and since it was a Yoga night still got in a couple of miles.

Mine's about .3-.5 miles maybe. Very walkable. I bike to carry more stuff and get around town for the social life and groceries/shopping. Word.

Moderately short, by your definition. 3.5 miles each way.

so-so commute

7.5 miles each way...depending on my route, on really hot days (every day lately) I take the long route home to be in the shade as much as possible adding anothe mile to my trip. Lots of construction the past year losing lots and lots of trees along the way... I have noticed this sure makes it hotter on the way home all that asphalt and less shade. The older residential areas are my only repreive now.

I'm right around 3.5 miles (RT) depending on route. Lately it's been slightly higher because I've had offsite trainings and meetings to get to. The nice part is they have been afternoon, so I go right home, the bad part is that I end up riding home in office clothes (shirt/tie) and B'more weather right now is not all that friendly to biking in slacks and a long sleeved shirt. Then there's the whole broken spoke thing (see my thread from yesterday if you are interested, YEARGH)...

1.3 miles, and I can do it faster on my bike in heavy traffic than I can by car at 5 AM with nobody on the road (counting it as leaving my door to checking in at the office).

2.81km. 2.83km if I go the 'long' way (around the building to the right instead of the left).

Mine is 5 miles one way. 21 stop signs, 8 traffic lights, a little bit hilly. Some days it's quick, some days it's not.

Same at ~ 5 mi, takes 20-25 min. Three stop signs, no lights, mile or so on bike path, another on busy 5 lane. Making left off 5 lane is crux but I think drivers almost seem to know where I turn because usually let me cross to the suicide lane pretty easy. I'm there all year x ice & snow months. Gotta love summer time!
Hey Dorosz, I stop by yoga studio on way home two nights a week. Just slight variation on route. Namaste!

My commute is about 1.8 miles one-way. If i were to walk then i would have to wake up 20 minutes earlier, and who wants to do that? It's also nice to decide to take off across town if i want after work.

Last year, my work commute was 5 miles one way, this year it was 8 miles one way or 3 miles+train. School was ~5miles.

Now, school is 0.8 miles one way, and i don't work! When will i have a chance to bike?

1 mile. Toe clips, old raleigh converted to fixed gear. Work clothes, bike comes to the office with me. Faster than driving because I park on the 4th floor of the parking garage.

Get ready for the flames: I don't wear a helmet. (flamethrowers, there's a whole other thread to tell me what an idiot I am).

4.2mi each way. 2 overpasses and a "hill" keep it challenging.

My commute is a whopping 9.5 miles round-trip. I envy those who've had similar distances who say they don't even break a sweat, though. I don't sweat much while I'm moving here in the "but it's a dry heat" state, but as soon as I stop, I'm drenched!

My commute is 2 miles, and I rarely go faster than 10 MPH on the way there or back. If I get up late I bike with a coffee in my hand to drink when I get there.

My commuter is a old 10 speed I bought of a co-worker for $5. I have been riding it to work for about 4 years now, and it is almost theft proof.
