Remember - When you turn your head, hair becomes rotating weight:

I'm a man and my hair has been past my shoulders at one point (when I was swimming in college of all things). Now It's about 3 to 5 inches long.

you # 1 guys are daring, I stick to # 2 but haven't done it since I started cycling, but I like shaving my head, gives me a new beginning. But I see how it could give you a cycling benefit, better ventilation and more aero.

the hairless look seems to suit many pros.. But, one way to brand that look as a cycling look. Let the helmet's vents brand your skull with that permanent striped tan effect.

Has coddling tendencies.
Am I the only one here rocking the abbreviated Shaun Cassidy?

I think Fuzzy Mylne (single speed endurance MTB racer) has it right. I’m not sure how good that would be for wind resistance on the road though.

I'm too astonished by the fact that "haircut" no longer cuts the mustard as a masculine term for some people to come down on you for the uncommonly stupid sexism.
On topic, who the F cares what your haircut is? Do what's comfortable, it's not like there's some particular style that looks especially pro. I suppose that if you're an Italian that the exquisitely coiffed curls are something to shoot for (unless you're bald), but otherwise there doesn't appear to be much of a consensus.
Eh. #4 for me, ~#1 for the beard. Because it looks good OFF the bike. Which is, after all, a lot more important.

i have long hair well past my shoulders. when im riding it goes in a ponytail.
the ponytail acts as a kite tail and has a stabilizing affect when descending at my usual speed of 80 miles per hour. when i am climbing it puts my center of gravity more over the pedals and i can deliver a greater stroke force.
also, it's a ***** to put the helmet on because my pony tail has to go through the rear tightener
