Long wheel base power riders.... Question
Today I was doing hard Intervals on my Tour Easy, In the wind, up hill,,,,both ways
Anyway as I started to fatigue and get worn down My Torso was trying to tuck, Like on my Mountain bike that I generally work out on.
My lower back would tense up a little and I would start shifting my shoulders forward bending at the waist.
The good part, my abs got a knarly workout.
My seat is reclined in an average way and my elbows are bent,,
Any thoughts, advice ?
,,,,or Is this expected because 75% of my rides are on the MTB off road on single track..
BTW chasing Roadies is fun,
But I don't think they like looking back and seeing this 41 pound Long Bike hanging with them.

Sounds like muscle memory working, your body remembers hunching down to get a little more power so it reflexively does it even on the recumbent to try to get a little more power.

It might help a little if you were behind a fairing at the time. Otherwise, no.

It does sound like muscle memory. When more / all of your rides are on the 'bent, I suspect that you will relax your torso more, even when tired.
I agree that chasing the younger roadies is fun. They definitely get upset when an old guy on a long, non-carbon bike catches up with them and hangs for awhile....

Ok,, Good info boyz, tanks..
I guess about the only thing I can do is work my middle harder, say abs and obliques ? Hit them harder twice a week maybe ??
Don't get me wrong I love my bent but I tend to ride it mostly for fun and to spin down the day after the mountain bike.

Update
Ok I moved my seat forward one inch, turns out I was pressing my lower back into the seat and not the top of my Glutes..
I scooted my ARizona as far back as I could and noticed I was almost knees locked when at max pedal to seat back distance So my seat was to far back. No more tucking, More power AFTER I get tired,,I'm good...
And the seat being forward ONE single Inch, I can actually feel a little extra weight on the front tire when I lean Into a fast corner.
Nice bonus.

Your seat may be set a little too far back from the pedals. I have an Easy Sport which is one model below the Tour Easy. It took me quite a while to get the forward/back position of the seat set just right. You want it forward enough that when you're going uphill you can push off the seat back and still get good leg extension. Your butt should be planted firmly in the 'L' formed by the seat and the seat back.
If it's just a half an inch too far back, you'll start leaning forward when pushing the pedals hard. Try moving it forward in small increments until you get it right. You'll know when you really get some power on the uphills. bk

Uber Goober
So do you lean forward in a car when you're trying to go faster?
