My New Ride!!

Well, at least for the next 60 days until the surgeon says it’s okay to ride on the road. Maybe at least I’ll avoid some rocks!!

What I really need is to put this in the bed of a pickup truck and have someone
drive me around while pedaling, I really hate pedaling indoors.....

Wouldn’t be surprised if you wear that thing out in 60 days!

Used one to rehab after knee replacement x2. It worked well, good movement afterwards. But, I was happy to pass it on to someone else needing rehab.....

Go man! The one thing to not worry about with this is the steering-balance issue. And getting and off is much easier and safer for you.

That looks pretty tall. Be careful going around corners.

Tailwind is the name, but I would use a fan to simulate a headwind. Your armpits and wife will appreciate a big fan.

I don't suppose putting one of your 'regular' bikes on a trainer or rollers (with fork mount) and a wind-resistance fan attachment would be an option? At least you wouldn't have to worry about 'fit'.

Good luck with your recovery!

Great point!! I thought I might do some time on the exercise bike first. I really needed the more upright position for a while. I rode it again today and it felt really good. It felt so comfortable, even while leaning over I’m ready to transition to my trainer. In fact it felt so good I was thinking I’m ready to jump to riding outdoors. But my surgeon wants me to wait so I’ll wait.

Now I’ve got to decide what bike to put on the trainer. I normally use my TT bike but that riding position might just be way too aggressive for a while. I have a trainer wheel I use with an older tire and it’s set up for 10 speed. What about my gravel bike????

Since I've been recovering from a shoulder and neck injury I've just used my one road bike on the trainer. I left the bike set up as it was before the injury, including with the handlebar a couple of inches below saddle height. Some days that was uncomfortable but I was able to compensate by using the riser block included with the Cycleops trainer -- set it for a slight upward incline and it was more comfortable.

Supposedly the riser block settings are to mimic hill climbs but it doesn't feel anything like climbing. To mimic that sensation I'd also need to crank down a lot more on the rear wheel resistance, and I didn't want to wear out the tire. I'm just using an old Conti Ultra Sport II, not a trainer tire.

But the riser block did effectively help adjust the bike for comfort day to day.

And using the trainer 2-3 days a week over the summer and early autumn helped. I took out the road bike Saturday for a spin on a favorite 20-30 mile route and hadn't lost any speed despite the stiff headwind that slowed me to nearly half my usual speed on some segments. Probably made up for it going the other way back home.
