@hazetguy, we have a fair amount of those black snakes in upstate New York. I like 'em. When the house was under renovation, they came through, inside the house! They left us three skins over the years. Since the house is sealed, we haven't seen any more inside. I don't want our guests freaking out with snakes around their ankles, but I sure don't like mice.

Yep, in NW Pennsylvania, blacksnakes are a farmer's friends. 👍 At Granma's, they put us babies out in the weeds, close to the grape arbor, and we played with blacksnakes. I guess there were plenty of grapes for everyone. 😁

Hah! Found one on the highway shoulder once. Sat there for days; I was sure a raccoon or raven or something would snatch it, but it just sat there turning into fish head jerky. Sadly, no pics.

They are non venoumous and help keep the rodent population under control, so they are good in my book.

I have always liked snakes, too. I was sad all day when a big black snake--no doubt a close relative of that one--sped out of the tall grass at the side of the road (somewhere between Poplarville and Biloxi, Mississippi) and directly under my front wheel, much faster than I could react. Went right over him and left him in his death throes, the poor fellow.

A short time later I remember passing the "Bad Habitz Wine and Liquor Store." The letters in the sign were rendered to look like they had been assembled from worn and weathered barn boards. I really should have taken a picture of that, but I was too shy.

I was told many years ago that Whitworth threading was "created" to make it so germans couldn't work on captured enemy planes.

It sounds plausible enough, and I want to believe it enough, that I have not googled it for confirmation.

Sorry, no. Whitworth predates airplanes by many years--it was the first national threading/bolt standard: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britis...dard_Whitworth

I saw a Huey helicopter explode in the air and fall from the sky as a kid growing up in J'ville / Camp Lejeune. It landed on a grocery store in a shopping center, but amazingly the only fatalities were the pilots.

Our club rides from the NC Global Transpark and we frequently see one of the heaviest airplanes to take to the sky, a Russian Antonov An-124

These little carefully balanced stacks of rocks are very common in my area. Mostly along trails and on the shore. Do people do this everywhere?

Yea, known as "cairn" typically, most often used to mark trails that are otherwise not obvious.

Gargantuan Alexander Calder (above) and Richard Serra (below) sculptures. These are at Myrtle Edwards Park, the starting point of a really nice bayside trail from downtown Seattle to the Magnolia neighborhood north of there.
