Chicago Area C&V Ride October 19th
Hello everyone,
Steve Whitlatch had a great idea. He asked if I would host a bike ride leaving from my house in Geneva Illinois. Check out the beautiful Fox river trail and its awesome scenery. We're thinking 25 or 30 miles. Then, have lunch in the Bicycle mancave and have some good conversation. Plus Id like to put some of your bicycles on my Youtube Channel! Check out the video invite!
What: C&V Ride approx 25-30 miles. Rain or shine. Lunch and Mancave tour only if its raining.
Where: Leave from Geneva IL Down the fox river trail
Why: Meet and enjoy a bike ride and lunch in the Bicycle Mancave with 35 Classic Rides
When: October 19th at 9am
There is a hotel only 1 block from my house also if your coming from a distance. Fairfield Inn and suites St charles.
Must RSVP so I know how much food and drinks to have on hand.
Message me for address or find it in video description.
Hope to see you there.

This should be pretty fun. Not much in the way of hills to climb, so no need to worry about gearing. The leaves in the Fox River Valley should be turning beautiful colors and there will be lots of beautiful bikes to look at hanging on the walls of the Man Cave. There will be food too. What could be more fun? Johns collection alone is worth the drive time. I will bring my Chrome Ochsner and my Roberts to the party.
The trail runs through some very nice towns along the river. Group speed will be around 14 mph avg. If anyone wants to go faster or farther, John and I both know the trails and I guess we could split into two groups if desired?

Gonna be in NOLA that weekend.
Beautiful trail/area. Got married in the Japanese garden on the Fabyan estate.
Color should be near peak.

I've done this ride before, actually it was my first get-together with folks from BF. It was a good time. I rode a Bianchi Limited that I had just rebuilt - I should have kept that bike.
But with riding a century this weekend and being gone for the entire weekend at the end of the month, I'm going to pass this year.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable ride.

The ride I did earlier was from Crystal Lake, I think. It was an out and back, then fish tacos for lunch. I may have confused that ride with this one.

Count me in!
Always fun to meet new folks, especially ones that have put together the ultimate bike nerd man cave!
Any informal theme to the ride? i.e. bring your Italian bikes, or maybe British bikes?
Admittedly, my collection is primarily British, but my Olmo has lots of pantographing that is fun to look at.

Maybe John has a preference? If the weather is dry, the options are:
1. 1974 Raleigh International in the copper "flamboyant" paint, in excellent condition
2. 1982 Raleigh Team in team colors, very good condition
3. 1982 Olmo Competition with crazy panto'd Campy bits. Definitely a bit of patina. Don't look too close.
4. mid 80's Hetchins Magnum Opus, with curly stays and excessively ornate lugs. A fun bike to look at, and rides quite nicely.

I'm not sure that all of the bikes will fit in a Mazda 3 hatchback....

given the trend towards colder weather in the next few days, perhaps we need to plan for "whiter" weather, such as we had for the spring ride?
I don't think that will happen, but I'm not ruling it out!
Steve in Peoria
(it's supposed to get down to 35F Friday night)

According to the 10 day forecast, 61F on the 19th. We shall see? This Saturday it is supposed to be 50 F. I am good to go down to 40 F.

Well unless you want to grill up some steaks, I think some good bread, assortment of good lunch meat for sandwiches and some kind of side salads would be good. Chips and dip, beer, maybe some wine? Pop.
