Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

your day wasn't worse than mine

1. i'm exhausted. how do i know? people say "man, you look tired"
2. 2 major project deadlines at work this friday at work. the reports i'm creating for one of those deadlines are being started from scratch tomorrow after a week of wrestling with microsoft access (ps. f*** MS access)
3. i go out for a nice ride in this beautiful weather we're having in boston and i get a mile from my house, have to emergency bunny hop over a massive pot hole, and blow out my rear tire (couldnt be the front, right?). i go through the trouble of disassembling to find out the spare i have doesn't have a long enough valve for my air tool. awesome. so after some relaxation meditation, i put the thing on my shoulder and walk right back up to the hill i live on in my kit and cleats. (ps. f*** boston roads)

on the bright side, i met a nice girl on the way home and we're going out this weekend. oh, wait, that didn't happen. nope, no positives, except the weather.

beat that.

(disclaimer: this is meant to be fairly sarcastic/ironic)

I was diagnosed with cancer of the toes, and only have 6 days to live. Guess I better start riding right now.

ETA: No matter how bad your day was, someone is ALWAYS having a worse one.

Saw a guy get hit by a truck today. Stayed with him until meds arrived. He seemed ok, his Super Six was destroyed.

F your flat tire.

I diagnosed someone with ALS. You had a flat tire. And your job was hard. You have a job and can ride your bike.

Get some perspective

You live in Boston and you are crying about a school assignment and a flat tire? Boston Strong didn't make it to UMass I guess. Buck up, finish your assignment, fix the tire and get on with life.

How is it being a firefighter? I've been looking for some first hand experience

My day wasn't worse than yours. It was sunny until dinner time. I got out for a run before the rain came. No ride though. Got all of my work done without incident. Spent some playtime with the dog.

i flatted once out in the country, put my new inner tube in. i found the nail that caused the flat but didnt notice the ripped sidewall. the new tube blew out the cut. no cell phone, i walked 3 miles in the road barefooted before i hitched a ride home. i'm to cheap to ruin $20 cleats

Truly sorry you had some bad things happen, just not a good time after watching Sean Colliers memorial service today.

You could have aired your flat up at home and gone for a ride after all. Maybe it was fate, could have been worse, you could have been squished by a truck. :-)

dang. how'd you regulate your emotions in that situation? i had that feeling of being completely stranded one time when my keys fell out of my pocket on a short trail ride. found out real quick why mom always tells me to have my phone on me. after looking up and down the trail several times, called mum to bail me out, but then right after calling i found them. its really crazy how everything can be going fine up until something happens and sht goes down hill in an instant, and the emotional and physiological response can be surreal. and just thinking about the hundred decisions and coincidences that led up to that point, you're like, if i had just made a slight move to the left, or if i had/hadnt been there, it wouldnt have been this way. crazy.

i've had some pretty tough times when i was in the marine corps. and my job as a firefighter can get pretty hectic. so really a flat tire and a short walk really isnt that bad. i try not to let the small things get to me.

naw trust me man (or sir, rather. thank you for your service), all of that is just like, too much to think about- i feel like we do need to reflect and prepare but also appreciate by being in our own experience fully because sht is just too much. idk, i try to put all of that in a special place and i do my best. and naw, i didnt come on here hoping people would feel sorry for me- i just wanted to vent, maybe work on my post count a little and maybe hear about someone else's crap. though, i do appreciate the kind things people have said, wasn't expecting that at all haha.
