Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I like both types of Fizik honestly, but I enjoy the soft-touch (only available in black IIRC) slightly more.

I'm currently rocking Forte/Performance Fizik knock-off tape, I forget the model name. I have it on my road SS/FG and both of my road bikes.

Thanks peeps. I can't believe how great the ride feels compared to a bike off the shelf. Interestingly enough, one of the more challenging parts of the process was locating a pair of nutted calipers that had at least a 54mm reach that were in trustworthy, working order. As of now, I'm still on the fence on single pivots....

check out velo orange, they have excellent quality stuff and they have a good reputation (they also sell tektro r559's which have an even longer reach)

i did a lot of looking around and these (dual pivots) had good reviews from what i saw and looked great, i was going to get these exact brakes for my fuji

till i had to stop and remind myself its a rain bike / commuter workhorse

Baby got new shoes

This is the first significant upgrade to any of my bikes in a while. The MKS Prime Touring pedals on my Salsa Casseroll with their narrow sharp serrated cage plates were killing my feet with soft soled shoes, so I spent $90 for some beautiful Velo Orange Grand Cru Sabot platform pedals. The little grip studs are replaceable, and VO includes 6 spares with a little wrench for removal and installation. My feet are now very .

I did check those out when I got my seatpost from VO. I was initially put off by the price tag, which would have made them the 2nd most costly item for the build. Go figure - one should invest more when one's safety is involved, eh? They're still not out of the question, though. Tektro also has the r539 which has the perfect reach and actually comes in a nutted mount. But alas, not really diggin' how modern they look. I am also considering drilling out the rear hole in the fork to accommodate recessed mount brakes, which would open up the possibilities quite a bit more.

Just for giggles I converted my Yeti Road Project to fixed, found a magic gear of 50 x 21 for 63 gear inches, a little spinny but that's the way I like it anyway. Really surprised how fun it turned out and it's insanely light at 15.5 lbs even with the heavy sun M13/forumla wheels. Probably converting it back to geared in the spring though.

I like it. Don't know if I'd consider that hub/rim combination 'heavy' by any means. Modest perhaps.

All i see is giant wind catchers..? Nice shots though, just watch out for the background exposure unless you are going to pop some light to bring up the foreground.

ha, yeah they are a bit obnoxious.
Thanks, the lighting was not being my friend today. I didn't edit any of these pictures, straight from the camera.

As @steady407 said, these are some cheap 88mm carbon clinchers. I don't ride with them too often. Truthfully, I bought them because they were "cheap" and I like how they look.
I bought them from AliExpress for around $350 shipped to New York.

Thanks for the info. Can I ask why you don't ride with them? Just don't like the ride or the look or both?

Nothing wrong with them, they are true. I just prefer to use the Wabi wheels I have. I don't go fast enough to see any of the aero benefits.
I'm going to be building a track bike, so I'll see how these hold up on the Velodrome.
