Neat article. I love the author's claim that the campy NR rear derailleur is all you need for touring . . . .
Also the author claims that the Crane RD has a "horizontal" parallelogram like the Suntour RD. I'm fairly certain it was a different design with a dropped parallelogram.

My own thoughts. Well written article overall. In this era, for most of us here. Choices are very easy ones. Campagnolo Nuovo Record unless you are on a budget, or need wide range gearing. Then it's a SunTour GT or a V-GT versus Shimano Crane or Crane GS. If one must go less expensive SunTour Honor versus Shimano Lark. The Hurets by now are dated, finicky, and the Simplex even more so. This is the year Japan snuck up on the European derailleur manufacturers, and began obsoleting their offerings (save for Campagnolo). So, 1973, the beginning of Japanese components being the performance per Dollar leaders. Remember it began with Cranks and Derailleurs. Keep the rest of the components and best bikes of 1973 coming. Fun articles.

Very cool. Nice to have some context about Shimano's derailleur lineup of the period.
I'm currently using a Crane GS on a bike and am about to put a Luxe Super Touring on another.
