I know I've seen these threads here before but perhaps it's been a while. Post pics of your modern bikes that you sometimes ride when you get tired of making love to your vintage steel.

I've got this 2009 Salsa Fargo that I'm building up for an upcoming week long bikepacking tour.



I've also got this 2012 Santa Cruz Tallboy. These days is sports a Jones bar (this pic is a few years old in California).



My Cetma is modern too.



Is that it? I think that's it.

2002 Soma Doublecross; 2004 Salsa Casseroll. The Salsa Casseroll is a fine all around road bike; I use the Soma more in crummy weather and for touring.

I'll take any newer bike that's comfortable, high performance, and weighs under 24 pounds, and costs me only a few hundred dollars, just like my older bikes do.

Colnago E1 - my climber and long distance rider.



Wilier Alpe D'Huez - BITD it was my racer, now just a try to go fast bike.



I also have a bastard stepchild Specialized Langster which is kept out in the shed.

Well I did end up paying well under $600 for it after swapping out the Record Ti seat post for a Chorus Carbon Fiber post (which took $80 out of the bike at zero performance loss). Truth is, only my Tommasini cost over $600, and that was bought brand new 30 years ago.

Other than the Tommasini, I've never paid anywhere near $1000 for a bike. In fact, other than my Tommasini, my 7 other bikes together cost me around $2000 combined as currently built.

I have a 2015 Kona Sutra that I really love. It's a bit overbuilt, even for a heavy-duty touring bike, but it was really well-speced and is awesome loaded or unloaded. Double-butted cromo, rigid MTB fork.

My newest bike is an '89, but it will hold it's own with most new bikes out there. 2x10, modern wheels, 17.83 lbs.

A friend of mine just got 4 NIB 2015 SL-4 Roubaix's from a storage unit sale. The 54cm is tempting, full 5800.

That's half a pound lighter than my most modern bike.



I could probably save around half a pound just by removing all of the Ridley decals on this thing. Otherwise, I might need to trade the triple in for a compact double and maybe get a set of low spoke count carbon wheels.

The singlespeed I pictured above is 18 pounds even with no pedals. Of course, basic functionality is sometimes worth a few grams.

My lightest vintage bike (with modern components) is 21.5 pounds. It's not easy being a weight weenie, especially when you need stout wheels.

I figured after riding the same bike for 27 years, I could splurge a little, so I bought a new Jamis Quest a five years ago. Even though I went all modern with the sloping top tube, low spoke count wheels, and brifters, it has a steel frame and a B17 saddle. It is my favorite ride when I know the pace is gonna be fast.

I bought the titanium Eddy a year ago, thinking it was a cheap way to get an Ultegra group. But, I like it more and more each time I ride it, including today.

When I simply have to keep up with the front of the pack, it has to be on my 2011 Tarmac.

Truth be told, the '84 Raleigh Racing USA Competition does really well in DA7800 retro mod trim as well.

Have a 2013 Cannondale carbon Synapse and a 2005 Pinarello Opera i built over the winter-- both are lightweight speed merchants if i have the legs to kick 'em into gear

Most of my bikes are modern (2003 or newer) at this point.

I still have a few that you guys would consider c&v, but I got bit by the mtb and off road bug a few years ago.

My Salsa Fargo is a "fun" bike that I ride pretty often.

Hey @gomango, how do you like that ECR, especially in comparison to the Fargo? Someday soonish I hope to pick up a go-anywhere bikepacking rig, and these are two standout options.

My most contemporary bikes are my Soma Saga touring bike, which I bought new (the frame), and my Ritchey Breakaway Cross, which I bought used (frame). I bought my Bob Jackson World Tour new from England about 6 years ago, so it's fairly new in age but vintage in design.

I've been looking for an excuse to post this bike which I built this past winter. It's pretty much the only thing I've ridden since, other than my mountain bike.


All City Mr. Pink. Steel frame with room for 38mm Randonneur Pro tires (which measure more like 34mm actual). Fender mounts but had to chop some old fenders down to get them to work with the large tires. This bike was exactly what I've been looking for. Something that handles like my Merckx but with room for wide tires and fenders.
