I just picked up my new ride and I am pretty sure I got a good deal but just trying to double check. This is a 1983 Austro Daimler/ Puch Ultima SL with full record group besides the brakes and levers. Mavic Brakes and levers, Mavic GP4 rims, Colnago stem, Cinelli bars. There is a little bit of rust on the frame, mostly around the bottom bracket, but nothing major. Any idea on the value?

$400 in current shape, more$$$ if you get after that rust (oxalic acid) and maybe replace a few decals if they perish, and get a real cable stop for that zip-tie. This one deserves to be made bright and shiny! BTW, that Colnago black stem doesn't belong, and it's sale could help finance your clean-up job.

Excellent, that is about what I estimated. As for the stem, what kind should it be? I am having a hard time finding specs on these. I am hoping to get on the restoration next week. Anyone know where to get decals for this?

A stem to match the bars is a certain safe choice. Even if it wasn't the one in the catalog that year it won't be "wrong."

The reason you're having a hard time finding specs is because the Ultima SL was sold for one year only in the US and only as a frameset with dealers building them up to increase margin. I've heard numbers anywhere from 14 to 50, but they're quite rare in any case. I paid $495 for mine with full SR, but the rims were shot. I think $400 is right on (and if I recall that's what your seller was asking). Your 3ttt stem isn't necessarily "wrong," but the Colnago panto obviously is. I would agree though that a Cinelli stem would probably be a more elegant choice.

Cyclomondo on ebay had Austro-Daimler stickers a while back. The Reynolds ones should be easier to find and he probably has those as well.

what is that doohickey hanging off the front brake? some kind of flick stand?

^huh?^ you see something unusual on the front brake? looks like a regular Modolo caliper to me, (re-branded as Mavic) but no "extras"...if anything it's *missing* some little quick-release cam or lever.

As a complete bike as it sits maybe $400-ish as previously mentioned.

Parted out.....a bit more maybe $500-600 SR parts bring good prices, suede seats do well and pantographed Colnago does well.

Thanks, guys. I actually added the suede seat after I got it but I still got a good deal, paid $350 for it. The guy selling it was asking $400 but he decided to sell it to me a little cheaper since I wasn't going to part it out. It rides great and I plan on keeping it a long time. I will post pics of it after restoration.

P.S> I don't know what "dohickey" you are talking about either but the quick release lever on the front brake is broken.

I think the 'dohickey' is the tire guides on the pads, or whatever you call those dohickey's.
