New Clear Thunderbolt

Serfas came out with a clear cover for the Thunderbolt. I read that it increased the side visiability so I ordered 2. It's a "be seen" cheapo $40 taillight and there are brighter, better, cheaper, easier to use, from Germany, and all around nice taillights that are far superior. So what....that's not what this thread is about.

I wanted to see for my self what it looked like. I but the K2 on a stand in the middle of the road and took some pictures. I know that I did it wrong and you could probably do better. I don't care.

I used a flash, although I know that is not what everyone would do. Don't care.

What surprised me is the angles that the rear Conti Reflex and the stripe on the frame bag work at. I had always thought that a reflective materials would only shine directly back to the source. I guess that's why many of them are "gritty", the lights reflect off the sides of the grit. Although I am sure that I am the only person that has never thought of that until I saw these pictures.

Oh yeah, they show the ability to see the Thunderbolt when not seen from directly behind the bike.

I think the thunderbolt is an excellent tail light. I use it on my road bike and mountain bike. My commuter has a dynamo tail light.

I've been using the Thunderbolt and the usl-tl60 on my rides and am happy with both. I like the idea of a clear one and may have to look into one.

I would suspect that the reflection your seeing is more likely from the flash than the thunderbolt.
