Pics of Raleigh USA 531c Framesets?

I have a bike built from a Raleigh Racing USA 1985 "555rsl" frameset-only kit, but I know that there were actual 531c labeled framesets sold in other years (maybe before and after?) filling that space in the lineup. Does anyone have one? Pics, please! Also, out of curiosity, the ads always show a 753 Raleigh USA option. Does anyone currently have one of those?

Here's a pic of mine & the s/n WP7001156) which puts it as a late 1987 buld, possibly a 1988 model?

Here's another. Originally the frameset was set up with Shimano 600 tricolor. When I needed a bike to take to Colorado I decided to swap out the drivetrain to Shimano triple in the front and DeoreLX derailleurs.

Awesome! That's exactly the paint scheme I was looking for! What does your pump peg look like?

Here’s another 531c. This one is from 1987.

Looking for a black Brooks Swift to replace the brown Brooks Professional.

Do the Seat Stay ends say "RALEIGH" or are they blank?

Yes It does. While Raleigh closed Worksop in 1981 and moved production to Nottingham, they continued to use the W (Worksop) serial numbers until at least 1989. The bike is at my shop several miles away and I’m at home so I can’t get a photo for you, but it’s definitely W, then some other letter representing the month, and then a 7. I’ll post a photo of it tomorrow.

By the way, it’s a great bike! If you found one for a price that you like I highly recommend it.

So awesome your interest is also Raleigh USA and this era! I am trying to spread the word on the West coast! I have, with few exceptions, purged all of my bikes for this stuff. BTW, the wife has asked how much of my collection is going to my shop in anticipation of looting 😁😐🤔

the peg is a little post (peg) with a mushroom looking top on it. Looks like it was made by brazing some rings to the top of the peg vs smashing or crushing the top (if that makes any sense)

I can send a pics on Sunday when I get back to Durango.

In 1985, even the Grand Prix's were 531, as well as the Super Courses and Competitions, IIRC.

if I’m correct, the 531c framesets were all mfg in England. Raleigh USA frames & framesets were 555 variety which was a USA licensed “copy” of the 531. Due to volume demand some 531 tubing was shipped to Raleigh USA and those frames are Made in USA (I’m going by memory.. ideas that sound correct?)

I think you are correct. On the stand alone frame sets, I believe all of them have the "Made in England for sale in the USA Only" sticker. Not sure on the complete bikes after '85.

Correct, but these were not UK-built. IIRC, the '86 models began to rely heavily on Taiwanese production over the Japanese production of the '84-85's.

I had this basic '85 UK frame kicking around for a while, but it was basically a UK-built clone of the Japan/Taiwan frames with exception to the lugs. "RALEIGH" caps just like the Comp/SC/GP's of the time too. Badged 555RSL - which was marketing speak for 531C for this particular frame in '84/5. Someone probably realized the 555 moniker on everything - including 531 itself - wasn't a good selling point.

Sold that frameset to a friend, seen riding it here. Can't seem to find the frameset pics.

Not what I'd expect either. who made the dropouts? On mine, they are Gipiemme..not that that may or may not mean anything, I am under the impression that the English frames all had a GVD sticker, though they can come off over time. Does the headtube badge say Nottingham England?

It would be weird to painstakingly reproduce an available off the peg frame set, no?
