Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That sounds like European sizing to me. When i was in northern Italy at the Italian Cycle Center in 2013 one day our group stopped at a high-end LBS. I was wearing L and XL at the time, depending on the maker. There was a nice kit I wanted to buy. Tried on the XXL, which was the largest size, and could not get the bibs on. Didn't even bother trying the jersey. A guy in our group, who was a solid M in the states, tried on a L jersey he liked. It didn't come close to fitting him, and there were no larger sizes.

Back in '95, when I was at the Giro, we went to the Bianchi store attached to the factory. (The day's stage finished there.) Tried on a pair of XL shorts when I was easily wearing L from the states. Darn near cut off my circulation.

The label said it was made in Hungary, which I thought was ironic, I would have to be seriously hungry to fit in it.

When that happens to me, I find that I started it and forgot.

There really are no washable dishes in the office except for personal coffee mugs that one can rinse out on one's own.

National CX Championships in Milwaukee in 1989. I was severely "humbled" according to my training diary.

Leading up to Nationals, I broke an ALAN and a Cinellii CX bike. Both had buckled at the head tube. My shop grabbed this old 49cm Trek 420 and braised on cantilever studs for the mud. I only raced it a couple times prior to Nationals but it really was a sweet little CX machine. We installed an original Shimano 600 indexed 6 speed rear derailleur and a single 46T chainring up front. It had Vittoria tubular CX tires.

Nothing like looking through old photos and realizing that Uncle Trsnrtr was cool.

I had this pic at my finger tips because my wife had posted it on FB a couple days ago. I have no idea why.
