fantasy classics/major one-day races + general one-day races discussion
wow. it's been a hot minute since the vuelta 2019 ended. velogames.com has a new game-"superclasico"-incorporating all the one-day races for 2020
that are all compressed into august-october. 25 races to be exact. all 25 races factor into the points totals. six riders on your team. you can change
the riders after every race for the upcoming race. there are a few races that are the following day so you will need to determine which of the two races you
have a better handle on/have the better riders for. for those people that like to change their riders constantly, you'll be happy. for those that don't,
change them as little as you like. some different rules and scoring
https://www.velogames.com/
league name: bike forums
league code: 907776411
deadline to register for this rolling classics/one-days fest is 13:30 CEST (Central European Summer Time) on Saturday 1st August 2020.
obviously, things are subject to change on a moment's notice during this competition. thought it might be a welcome distraction with
everything going down. if any of the gt's actually get rolling this year, i will post those in separate threads as usual since this "superclasico"
will theoretically still be rolling. hope all the regulars, even slcbob, have been doing as well as possible and look forward to seeing your pithy comments
and astute selections as always. any potentially new participants, don't be afraid to take the plunge. we don't bite hard or all that often and you just might
find that the fantasy thing adds another level of appreciation to the sport. best wishes and good luck!

I'm in!
And I'm very, very excited about the riders I was able to recruit for Strada Bianche.
Not sure what I'll do for Gran Trittico Lombardo though...

as i read the rules, it looks like if this strade bianche deadline is missed, you can still join the superclasico really at any point..just no points for any missed race(s). only speaking for myself, i'm looking at having the best showing i can every race vs the whole enchilada like the giro, tdf or vuelta where you're not changing riders. shall be interesting.

Bettiol is proving an excellent pick for EF!! It was hard to follow this race but from what I can tell from reading post race stories it was quite a blood bath. Nibali injuring his hand, Avermaet vomiting, punctures galore leaving riders facing an impenetrable wall of dust. Alaphillipe with like 5 mechanicals! 116 riders failed to finish, with 8 missing out on the time cut (!?).
I've been busy translating Italian websites to get my head around this new merger race of Gran Trittico Lombardo.

I'm leaving van Avermaet off for this next run, I don't think he's going to recover quickly enough for this next one, looks like the second half of the race will just keep punching away without mercy. I picked based off some recommendations so I'm leaving 8 points on the table cost wise. Will this race be given points for classifications though, like sprint and kom?

Okay I'm locked in now, used up all my 100 points. I'm betting my last minute switch will, erm, come out swinging

From how the riders described it, once you were dropped for whatever reason from the main groups you got nothing but dust. I read something like they couldn't see 2m infront of them. I don't think Sagan does well in hot conditions, and then you wonder if this season will be separated into those that had (or potentially had) covid vs those that got lucky and didn't.
Of course then there's maybe just strategy? If you're focused on some select races no use killing yourself to get 50th place? Sagan can pretty much do whatever he feels like I think.
Now I'm nervous about Avermaet, I bet he's ravenous for a top finish. He's had good rides but not much wins since wearing yellow for awhile in 2018?

Stinks when your chances are sunk due to mechanicals, good on him for finishing, even though it was 15 minutes down. The top ten finish times literally trickle in from 1:30 (bettiol), with about a minute per rider until 7:45 down with smaller clumps coming in. This race must've been a trial run for many big names.
Still 5 punctures for alaphillipe!? Bad bike handling? Bad equipment? I mean how? Since I'm an arm chair expert, I rode single track yesterday on my 38mm gravel bike and had one real cringe worthy impact on the front - like the "oh I taco'ed the rim" impact but I was lucky to be running road pressure so it saved the rim. Is the gravel just really jagged like Kansas flint?

Ah forgive me for doubting the shark and van Avermaet. Going through the translated Italian text, it seems to have been an exciting finale. Rainy, with a Basque champion Izagirre, Aranburu, Avermaet is third, Kwiatkowski, Nibali 5th.
Will not be referencing French sites for tips on Italian races again

and it looks like whatever transpires as the giro and the vuelta is gonna be co-opted into a multi-tour program like this superclasico one-day races scenario.
no separate giro or vuelta threads. i'll post the applicable thread tomorrow.

Yeah flat as a pancake. I wonder if it will be a nervous, fast race as teams struggle to control? Could there be a daring break? - it would only stick if by some wild chance you get Gilbert,Sagan, van der poel in the mix?
I'll be looking towards Ewing, he had good results early before the lockdown.
I can't wait to see how Sagan does, but I think he's a little over priced for this race, and more so van der poel. I'm thinking they won't go deep in anticipation for San Remo.

Yes get in! The deadline isn't until late tonight for the US for Milano Torino. I have an awful feeling I should've picked van der poel. Still love his performance last year at Amstel Gold, and he was a finisher at strade bianche when others dropped out.

milano-torino looks like a real drag race. hoping for an exciting but clean (no dq’s, relegations or crashes) finish. going with bennett, ewan and demare in that order of finish. gaviria and sagan 4th and 5th.
