A full and comprehensive education happens thru life outside the classroom. There simply isn't enough time for everything and some subjects must be sought out after school hours.
Given the options for what to cut, Greek Mythology should always come first.
You simply can't justify it over math, various sciences, various history classes, social studies, geography, practical life(welding, auto repair, wood working, design, etc), art, music, and more.

Knowing the name of a random fake person that was one of many children to a fake king and who rolled a fake rock up a hill over and over is not an accurate measure of a well rounded education.

When you say 'all the classics', what exactly do you mean? So we have Greek mythology, then Norse mythology of course, since that historically influenced so much of Europe. Add in Egyptian too as that was so influential in the Meso mideastern part of the world. Then obviously all of Indian and Chinese mythology too since, you know, those are kinda sorta huge areas of historical influence. Roman mythology is another obvious requirement due to the vast expanse of the Roman empire.

Ha, laying (only some) them out makes it so clearly unrealistic. But hey, you are entitled to your opinion.

These things go in... dare I say it... cycles.

All of us who were there saw it in the 70s and 80s - especially mustaches and sideburns. One day the current gen will look around and notice that everyone else has the same beard, and a tat in the same place, as them. They'll be stuck with the tats; but the face-fur will start to go away.

Eye candy is defined as someone or something that is very attractive or pleasing to look at.

Eyesore a person who is not only ugly, but also difficult on the eye

Since you painted your house electric pink it has become the eyesore of the neighbourhood.

1)This looks like some serious cyclists
B) This looks like the prize assortment at a carnival game.
#1 ) Looked "modern" at the time since no one had spare tubulars wrapped around their shoulders or had to don goggles due to the unpaved roads of the pre-WWII era.
#B ) Looks "modern" now because it is, for "now".
Less "Serious": Not so much.

OP: If you used a pic of B) in full chat on the pave' instead of just rolling off the start-line it would have more of the drama & determination of the pic chosen to represent 1).

BTW OP:
Do you kit yourself out in Period 1) style kit of woolen "trade team" jersey, woolen leather chamois shorts, leather slippers w/ tacked-on-TA-cleats, leather hairnet and a dogged Belgian roleur "hard-man" expression to assault the rigors of the Lakeshore MUP? If so, Pics please.

What's striking about these two photos is body position. The modern riders all seem to have their elbows locked for some reason.

The black shoes with white socks, and to a lesser extent white shoes with black socks in the second photo, just looks silly.

It really is all about the posture. These guys look more "serious" than the cobblestone picture:

The cobbles may have something to do with the elbow bend. A little extra shock absorption?

I thought that riding with arms locked at any time is bad form or a sign of poor bike fit?

It certainly isn't stylish. The posture of the guys in the top photo are more natural. Maybe head tubes were taller back in the day.

Locked elbows = the modern riders are rolling along slowly in the neutralized zone, having just departed the start line, or are at some other point in the race where they're taking it easy.

All the riders in both pictures look equally comical to anyone other than a bike racing fan.

I wear bright safety yellow/greenish jerseys and windbreakers, only for high visibility. I wear black tights because that's what I find. I also think that black reduces the effect as seen on the red shorts.
Black does not show dirt or chain lube as much. I wear bike shoes because they are more efficient, and for me, more comfortable. Fashion is not important compared to function, for me.
I can't be the only one who thinks this way? My bike clothes have no names or logos, they are solid colors. Sometimes it's hard to find plain jerseys. Some riders wear what they found on line or in person. When I started doing lots of road riding I thought that roadies had terrible taste in clothing. Now I know the function of bright colors when riding. That does not mean that there are not others who do buy kit just for looks.
I can't imagine anyone using lights as a fashion statement. Being lit up, to be visible is important too.

Either way is good. YMMV.

Top picture - cobbles. If you want to keep your teeth - arms will not be locked.

Both cases the groups are not driving it. I think our current riders are generally lower than those wearing wool.

Yep...me too. My first proper cycling jersey was in the same style I'd usually wear for casual, non-business clothing: a nice black jersey with a grey skull.

Then I started paying attention to other cyclists on the road either solo or in small groups. Bright colors were easier to see at a distance, which is what I want if I'm alone on some two-lane country road with no shoulders. Next came daytime running lights, followed by a stupid colored helmet and hi-viz socks.

I certainly do not use clown-barf getup every time I ride a bike. It's not necessary for a trip across town to the store or a slow roll on the MUP. Street clothes are usually fine for that kind of thing.

Neon makes me nauseous. Personally, I use daytime lighting but prefer my "hi-viz" to be in the form of my accessories. My shoes (motion) have reflective fabric as does my saddle bag. Instead, I just wear normal cycling attire and add hi-viz strips as I see necessary.
