1986 Voyageur - New Bike Day!

For a few weeks I’d been watching this on our local Facebook Marketplace. When it finally dropped to C&V El Cheapo Price, I jumped.

Other than the add-on mirror, it appears to be all factory original.

Such cool bikes!

Congratulations!

It looks like it was stored nicely- when that paint chips- the primer shows BRIGHT. And those Gran Compe hoods look NEW!!

If you're not familiar with the Mirrycle mirror- give it a chance- the position is the best position ever- it's just a glance and you see exactly what you want to see behind you. No turning your head to center the image, no moving your head down to see a bar end mirror... just a glance of your eyeball. I wish there were better options to put mirrors in this position.

Although I haven't seen him around lately- check out Bob's awesome Flickr pages about the bike:

Nice score, I love it when patience pays off. I have one of those mirrors on a Trek 420 I am refurbishing, haven't rode with it yet but I hear good things. I had an 86 Schwinn Passage, the little brother to your Voyageur and i loved the way it rode.

Welcome to the fold and you'll like the mirror, I have one on a couple of my bikes and plan to add them to a few more.

My '85, also purchased at an "El Cheapo" price.......

The Miyata 1000 that I passed on to another BF member had one of hose mirrors... I can't use the 'tradtional' bar-end mirrors sine I have SunTour barcons on all of my 'road'-ridden bikes...

As I bought it (seller's photo)

I leveled the bars and lowered the stem to the Safe level. Also, the mirror isn't going away. I like it.

Wow! That’s a beautiful bike, and the condition looks spectacular. The green paint is a nice shade, the photos of the badge really show it off.

Congrats!

Correction...the catalog color is 'British Pine' I think I like that even better

PS - If you need new rubber (not sure if it's cracking) I really like my Soma Xpress 27 x 1 1/4. I put them on my Le Champion and they ride super fat and supple

@cb400bill- now you have to decide whether you want to go to 700C with this or keep it at 27". I think you have a 40 spoke rear wheel- and Modele 58s (I think those would have been Wolbers then...). That makes the decision THAT much harder.

Time to reference that 27" Tire thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ce-thread.html

My recommendation is for the Sand Canyon 27 x 1 3/8.

I'm sticking with 27". I just ordered the Soma Xpress 27 x 1 1/4".

And yes, the rims are Wolber 58s.

The 86 model I had for a while also had cartridge wheel bearings that were smooth as silk and definitely worth keeping those original 27" wheels for. I already had an 87 Voyageur when I picked up the 86 and was in a quandary as to which to keep. The 86 seat stay/top tube attachments were more refined and there was chrome under the paint on the fork and rear triangle but I wound up keeping the 87 due to the fact it has drilled through low rider mounts on the fork and I have an old Blackburn set of lowriders that require the hole. Anyway I swapped wheels before I sold the 86 to keep the sealed bearings.

Beautiful condition and congratulations!
