I need to be able to take a small number of items with me - items like keys, some money, a phone and maybe an energy bar - on my fatbike bike rides.

I don't want to carry the items on me (jersey, backpack, etc).

I'm struggling to find a way to attach a top tube bag or a saddle bag on my fatbike.

Here's the side view of the relevant area:



A saddle bag would compromise the position of my Garmin radar rear light. A top tube bag simply wouldn't have long enough Velcro straps to get around the monstrous top tube!

Any ideas on a suitable type of bag for this frame?

Blackburn Outpost top tube (gas tank) and frame bags work on a Specialized Fatboy. I don't think your TT is any wider.

^ I did look at that one. I have two issues at the top tube triangle. The down tube is welded to the top tube for a distance of around 3 to 4 inches from the head tube, so I'd only be able to use the rear strap.

How long are the straps for the top tube? The circumference of my top tube is a little over 6 inches.

Kind of expensive but are insulated, will keep a 25oz "soda" cold.

Houston, we have a problem.

That is an issue. For the TT bag I have you would need to add velcro to the first two straps. Not hard really, just some sections stuck to the original to extend it.

After a long discussion with an online UK bike retailer, I have ordered the Blackburn Outpost Top Tube bag on the understanding that I can return it if it doesn't fit. I think I'll be able to make it work with some creativity applied to the straps.

If it fails to fit, I'll look at handlebar and frame bags.

Here's the results. I ordered the Blackburn Outpost Top Tube bag as shown by @Happy Feet earlier in this thread. Due to the welding of my top-tube, down tube and head tube triangle, I needed a very long strap that would go around the top tune and down tube.

The bag is supplied with two longish straps and two shortish straps. What I ended up doing was using one long strap at the rear and joined the two short ones at the front (on the top tube).

Here's how it looks now:













It's still a fairly small bag due to it being quite narrow (which it has to be). However, it fits my regular iPhone 7 (with case) easily and there's space for a few more bits and pieces in the there. You can see a divider which I'll use to separate my bunch of keys from my phone.

It does get a little in the way when you stand over the top tube. Your groin bumps the rear end of the bag so you do need to be somewhat careful. I did two very short test rides and there were no issues with the bag rubbing my knees whilst on the move.

I like the positioning of the bag as it's right in front of you so you'll know if it's about to fall off. However, it's held extremely securely via three tough straps.

It's a well made bag of high quality. Interior space is advertised as 1 litre, although it looks less than that to me.

There are two holes (covered by fabric) in the bag and you can use these to mount the bag on a top tube that has bottle cage bosses on it (like my Prosecco has, but I've already found a bag for that). You get two small rubber bungs to waterproof the two holes from the underside of the bag if you are not mounting it on cage bosses with cage bolts (which are not supplied). You also get two wide washers to use if you are.

If you mount the bag using cage bolts then you can remove all three straps to provide a nice, clean look.

@qclabrat: That's a combo mount for my Garmin Varia UT800 Urban Edition Front Light which is mounted underneath the mount, leaving the top standard Garmin mount for my Edge 1000. It just saves handlebar space.

One of the many selling points for me with the Mukluk were the accessory eyelets on the top tube to attach their top tube bag.

I took all the loose padding out of my Blackburn bag to create more space.

Do you mean the adjustable divider? I only saw one partition that I've adjusted. Is there more that can be removed?

There is also the pad for the bottom that hides the bolt holes.

As an aside. The mesh pouch on top works very well for holding a canister of bear spray.

Thanks for posting this link. I've been looking for something like this for a while, and only ones I've found were the Blackburns, which I believe are around $80 CAD each!

Yes, it’s the carbon version. Since that picture was taken, I’ve added a rack and trunk bag along with a storage can that fits in a bottle cage. Easily accommodates the small items listed above.

they aren't really mounts, they are the top pivot bolts for the dropouts. The aluminum versions do have these bolts. Salsa sells a kit with longer bolts and spacers for adding racks.

As someone mentioned upthread, I have a revelate feedbag. Works fine for this purpose.
