Hardly a Race Rig but a properly fitted out winter/wet bike is a useful machine when the Hi-Zoot one is down for season end overhaul and base miles must be acquired on wet roads.
Freshly overhauled and ready for service w/ HS & Hubs re-packed, new cassette, chain, bar tape, front tire/tube, a cheerful bell, full mudguards, blinkie and a real frame pump.
Good to go.

Seriously: I rode in rain while in Scotland, it was cool.

This machine was built as a "modern-ish" replacement for my '74 Raleigh International, works a treat for weekend trips w/ a Carradice bag fitted.
PS: "Mudguard" is a British euphemism for the substance deposited on roadways by draft animals and flocks of sheep back when. "Mud" indeed.....

Now you can understand why the traditional British club rider's bike was designed for versatility: light enough to ride pace on the rough rural roads, mudguards fitted for the inevitable wet to be removed for the club TT when the "sprints" were fitted.

Everyone I rode with kept an eye on the forecast, I did too. Always trying to figure out the best time to ride. But never any thought of not riding because of rain. I guess in Scotland you'd hardly ride if you let the threat of rain hold you back.
I really did luck out with the weather though- only one day in light rain. Otherwise, great weather for riding- temps in the 50s with brilliant sunshine half the time, cool clouds the other half. Zero complaints.

Here's my current stable of race bikes:
TT bike
Training bike & mid-week race bike
Track bike in mass start configuration
Track bike in TT configuration
Race rig
Don't know how I ended up with so many black bikes since red is my favorite color.
Yes, I did a mass start track race this year. I didn't do any TTs on the track this year though.

@echappist, thanks. I was worried about putting red accents on the Fuji but it seemed to work out OK when I was done.
@Hermes, garage door is still there. Just trying something different in preparation for the new house.
@sarals, my Christmas present was taking the time to work on these photos which I shot almost a year ago.

Unfortunately, it's been more like a whimpering herd the past two years. I'll try to do better this year.

We are near the end of Mass Industrial production for high quality high $ products like racing bikes, golf clubs and recliners.
3D printing in exotic materials combined with full data capture of an individual's physique, power output, weight bias, braking input and budget will produce a unique individually tailored machine built to suit. Mass produced machines will be a relic of a simpler crude age of "close enough" that really wasn't after all.
No more hardware compromises, and new excuses when Captain Fast gets dropped by like a hot rock by junior women.

I finally got around to taking a picture and, more importantly, remembering to upload it:
Specialized Allez Sprint 58cm frameset, 5800 105 drivetrain and brakes with the exception of a mid-cage Ultegra RD, Boyd 44mm wheels, Specialized Chicane saddle and Hover +15 carbon bars, Look Kéo 2 Max pedals and King stainless cages (third bike they've been on).
This is easily the stiffest bike I've owned, both in terms of pedaling and ride. Still, it's not uncomfortable so far; I've done a 65-mile ride with no issues, and plan to do back-to-back centuries on it in November. It corners like it's on rails. It's not light at 18lbs. 2 oz. with pedals and cages, but I'm okay with that. It's got the mid-cage RD so I can run an 11-32 cassette when needed, I run an 11-25 the rest of the time. I hope to do both Ride the Rockies and LATOJA this year (both have lottery entries) and plan on using this bike for them.
I'm really enjoying this bike so far!

@revchuck, that's an Allez? Really, really nice! Oh, and I'm assuming you're tall (much taller than me, but who isn't). Beautiful bike!

@revchuck, it's amazing what Specialized and Cannondale are doing with aluminum these days. Great looking bike. I'm sure it rides as well as it looks.

NOS 2010 Fuji Elite that fits me. I had a 56 before that couldn't be properly set up due to the seat mast being cut down by the first owner. This bike rides like I stole it!
