There was a software update yesterday, well I got it yesterday for my 520. Maybe that? Sorry I wish I had more of a solution for your. The 520 is getting a bit old now so I fear this type of issue will get worse. The 520 came out what 5-6 years ago now. My 500 was awesome until it het about 5 years old then it really went down hill. I guess its to be expected.
I am looking forward to upgrading when I need to. Can't wait for a bitter screen on the 1030 or whatever model that is.
Long story short try syncing to the computer and see if there is an update.

Can you be more specific about being unable to upload the file? What files are you trying to upload? Is the 520 being recognized in finder / explorer on your computer?

Are you perhaps talking about the Connect Mobile App ?, which is used on an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet ?.

I have only ever used Express to update the OS or load new maps. I use the BlueTooth function with GCM on an iPhone to get completed rides as well as RWGPS routes off/on the device.
Last 2 rides I’ve not seen the automatic dump of a completed ride up to GCM, I’ve had to do a manual upload from the device, which has in any event, always worked for me. As I’ve updated the 1030 to the recent OS, as well as my iPhone OS, I likely need to do the complete BT wipe and reset.

I had a mapping issues a long long time ago. A garmin CS person said you should if you can connect through the Express program on PC/Mac every 6-8 weeks. Just better updates and data flow then Bluetooth. I usually upload via Bluetooth but every month I connect to the PC. Been no issues luckely

Hmmm. My Edge 520 gives me continual problems. Connecting to a Mac PC via USB, the Garmin starts up and the Garmin gives me the regular screen (i.e., loading maps, ready to ride), instead of the screen that tells me that it is connected to the computer (the screen with the % power and connection icon), and the Mac doesn't recognize the Garmin as a connected drive. I disconnect, connect, disconnect, connect, say an incantation, and eventually the right connection is made.
Anybody know the cure for this? It's driving me nuts.

You can access Garmin Connect on a PC. It's not an app obviously, but it's a website and I use it for importing routes from Strava, Ride with GPS, etc then transfer to my device.

I had a hit or miss issue with my computer (windows) "seeing" my Garmin 520 when i connected to get updates, or download maps or courses or what have you. It turns out that not all of the micro USB cables i have scattered around are data cables. many are just cheap charging cables, and as such do not contain the full compliment of conductors. now I keep the dedicated data cable attached to my computer USB hub, so I can't screw that up again, and save me the frustration!
