I'm expecting a full and complete recovery. I also hope that your convalescence gives you opportunity to catch up on reflection, reading, relating and resting.
Also, since few have commented on this, it's pretty awesome that you were able to capture the offending rock. It will stand as a monument to your resilience. You might want to bronze and mount it...

The Good Samaritan was the guy in the left ... he and his wife just moved from (no surprise) Minnesota. He’s one cool dude and I wanna stay in contact with him.
Here’s a photo of the helmet:
And you’ll love this ... what is left of my sunglasses:
I’d include a pix of my face, but oy .., 🙄

Your crash should serve as a reminder that not all the dangers of cycling are due to motorists. We also need to be vigilant to ordinary road hazards. A woman in the bike club here had a fatal crash while on holiday in Florida. When the paved roadway shoulder suddenly and unexpectedly ended, her wheels dropped into sand and she lost control, falling in front of a vehicle. The motorist was not at fault.

I have had three serious crashes, and none of them have involved cars. The first accident was just a matter of me not being able to see the path as well as I should have. The second was a failed front tire. And this one was apparently from having a rock in the road that I did not see.
Well, I went to the maxillofacial surgeon yesterday, and apparently there are no broken bones in my face. I'm going to the ENT today about the schnoz.

Sorry to learn of your crash and I hope you are making a quick and full recovery.
Your symptoms appear to be similar to what I experienced a few years ago: although I didn't crash our tandem, I had temporary memory loss and kept asking my wife the same questions. I suddenly couldn't remember where we had come from or where we were going, and it took about an hour of rest before things began to clarify. Dr, Google told me it was a Transient Global Amnesia (TGA), as it had all the symptoms, but my cardiologist insists it was a TIA, without any of the symptoms! I've been fine since.

I hit, I think, a 12" long piece of 2" angle iron, coming down a steep mountain (Sandia's east of Albuquerque)
1) I also had a memory lapse, I remember hitting it, front tire exploding, thinking I need to apply brakes ASSP, then only the last second on sliding on my back. This memory lapse actually might be a good thing and keep us from having nightmares.
2) I can't stress enough about keeping your eyes peeled on the road ahead, I don't remember what distracted me, but I wasn't concentrating on the road when I hit it.
3) I won't go into all my injuries, but before minor surgery doctors usually say "this won't hurt". Mine said just the opposite. I've been rather drug free my whole life, but that Ketamine stuff is GREAT.
4) We have the benefit of being fit, helps us heal faster, even after 60.
Good luck in healing fast. I did get tired of TV quickly, and physical therapy does help.

Well, bad news.
It turns out that I did fracture an occipital condyle. That means I'll have to wear a neck brace for the next seven weeks at a minimum.
That is going to suck.

Hate to hear that.....but all things considered it could have been much worse. Was your neck/back of the head hurting? Will you need to wear the brace sleeping?

I'm not sure what the neck brace is going to look like and how bad it will be, but I have to wear it almost 100% of the time. About the only time on permitted to take it off as I am taking a shower.
So, of course that means I'll set up camp in the shower from now on.

By the way, you all are likely to see some pretty funny typographical errors and the use of strange words over the next several weeks.

Neck braces have terrible aerodynamics so riding the bike will be like riding with an open umbrella. Now the lady in your post, that's what I call a smooth neck brace. If you could get your hands, on something like that, you might actually be seeing some improved performance on your favorite segments.

Biker395 Damn Vic, I missed this while away for a few days, glad that your sense of humor is still intact. Glad that the good samara tin has there for you, I had one that most saved me from getting run over in my last crash, May 2017. He saw me going down as he was approaching me from behind as the dog ran out into my front wheel and OTB for me (second time this happened from a dog sticking its nose into my spokes.) Got my face badly ground up and a concussion as a cherry on the top of the sundae.
Not surprised that things are showing up after the initial assessment from the crash injuries, I am still having repercussions now from my face plant. Seems I cracked two molars on the left side and didn't know until last October. Here's hoping that everything heals up completely, and no complications arise to set you back more than already. Funny thing is, I was jut thinking about you earlier this week, sorry to se this happen to you buddy.

Just now seeing this thread. Wow! Sorry about the crash and injuries. It's good to keep it in perspective, because it could always have been worse, but damn, sorry you have to go through all that.

Glad to hear you survived. From your description, it sounds like you had almost the exact same experience I had last July. And that includes the point of impact on your face and helmut as well as glasses, though the scratches on mine were not as impressive as yours.
I wrote here a long description of my experience, but just deleted it. It's your thread, your crash so I don't want to divert any responses that should rightly go to you. But geez, except for the broken arm, your crash, loss of memory, post crash experiences and even damage to bike seem to be eerily the same.
I started feeling 99% of my former self in mid-December. I haven't ridden since my crash. With the days getting longer now, I'm itching to get back riding again. I hope you'll be riding again soon or at least not be in a fog for months as I felt I was.

You certainly have a very positive outlook and I'm sure that will help with the recovery. With no memory immediately before and after the accident would indicate you probably did get knocked out. I had the same thing from a motorcycle accident and it really bugged me cause I could not figure out what happened, what I could have done to avoid it, etc.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Will look forward to your splendid ride pics in the not too distant future.

Best wishes for a complete recovery. At least your recovery will take place in the off-season and you should be back riding again before summer.
I had a serious crash in September 2018, over 5 months off the bike.
By Summer 2019, I rode across the USA. It's surprising how fast your recovery will be physically.
I still deal with some fear in certain situations but I figure that's OK. Figure I'm wiser and more careful because of the experience.

This weekend, I actually had yet another episode related to this crash. Really, really uncomfortable stuff. But its peripheral enough you guys really don't wanna hear about it.
I just hope I'm over the hump now.
