The Cult of CAAD...

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Would you mind posting a link to the 2011 Allez with 105? I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks Blackdays. There are times that Google is your friend....and times that a Google search is too simplistic. I should have been more clear, though. Show me a link to a 105 Allez here in the US. Maybe my post should have simply read "Allez 105 doesn't seem to be available in the US for 2011". Here is Specialized US website for the Allez. It tops at Apex and shows no 105.

Though the sarcasm was not lost on me and was mildly amusing. Thanks.

Note to self: You forgot to type 2011, which is exactly what he is trying to say. 2011 Specialized Allez with 105 - doesn't exist in the US if at all. Check the website the normal way in the first place, instead of googling and finding archives - it would have saved everyone time.

It's all good 2G. I would have been disappointed if BF didn't take that one! Though following your "incredibly helpful" link , it's good to know that the Allez was available in 105 in 2009!

I need to see some CAAD porn! Anybody?

Like the spec lists have nothing to do with costs of components or manufacturing, or distribution, or etc. C'mon dude, get a grip.
The Allez is a new frame for 2011 isn't it? That's what I was under the impression of. What you just linked to has nothing to do with the origins of the frame. Afaik they designed the frame as an entry level frame. This is not the E5 Al Specialized Sworks Allez. Now that there is a nice frame.

Also, the stack looks a little much for the allez, no?

As far as the Trek 1.5 comment goes. I see two different bike frames. They both have tubes and the tubes have shapes. That is the only similarity I see. I have no idea where you're getting the 1.5 inspired bull from. See the headtube on the 10? See a similarity on the 1.5? No? Thought so.

See the headtube:downtube junction? Similarity? Yeah, they're welded together. Anything else? Nope!

Omg, the fork is straight-ish! There are no other bikes that have those right? Just because you owned a trek 1.5 doesn't mean that you see things similarly. I bet the seatstays are shaped the same too right?

Looking into the frame details for the Allez some more:

FRAME
Specialized E5 aluminum, fully manipulated tubing, smooth weld compact race design, 1.5" integrated headset

Looks like it's the E5 of old. I wonder if they've changed anything.

If it's anything like the bike below, it should be rad. But notice how the tube shapes are quite different. It doesn't look like the old S Works bike at all.

From bike rumor:

The new frames are 20% stiffer…they have the same torsional stiffness as the Pro Tour-proven Tarmac SL3…and they get the same tapered headtube design on the Elite models with bearings set further up the steerer tube for enhanced stiffness due to increased surface contact area (details are a bit sparse on that aspect, we’re working on it). The seat tube gets butted, swaged and formed into a squared shape at the bottom bracket, strengthening one of the highest stressed areas on the bike.
Being Specialized’s competitive but affordable road model, the Allez comes with both high performance builds and one version with SRAM’s new performance touring compact double Apex group.

Cool.

I was envisioning the E5 of old or an allez like the old ones. Nice to see a well priced AL frame that is actually designed to not be run of the mill and boring.

Still I wish it looked more like the old sworks. I really dug those frames.

Where did I ever say that?

I just said I loved how the old frames looked, and guess what? They were raced pretty hard. Homeboy grolby still has one and hasn't a bad thing to say about it.

I said in the post right above your nonsense that it's nice to see them coming out with a well priced AL frame 'that is actually designed not to be run of the mill and boring.'

I just don't think it looks great. There's a paragraph break separating those two statements. I'm pretty sure that implies that it's a separate thought. I'll spell it out for you more next time, kay?

The cult of CAAD gives it's nod to specialized E5.

Then again, given your snark, you seem to know more about bikes than I ever will so I'll lead you to say what really matters. Cause you like know what's up right?

I haven't seriously looked at newer bikes for well over a year. I don't really care about them. The marketing bullshiet about stiffness and this and that doesn't mean jack to me. I haven't been in the market for a new bike for 3 years. So I'm sorry that I didn't know that specialized decided to bring back an E5 alloy bike. All I know is that everyone I've talked to dug/digs their OLD Sworks E5. Oh and everyone I've talked to who owns a 9 loves it including those that have moved to one from carbon frames worth much more.

I don't know if you're talking to me or photojoe, but honestly dude I never wanted to start an argument. As you said, I've also heard that the 9/10 is great as is the e5. Now I would just like to hear from someone who has ridden the new allez to let us know how it compares.

I'm so tempted to post mine now, but all I did was install my Fizik Aliante Saddle.
The K-Wing Bar, Dura Ace 7800 bits (fr der/r der/shifters/chain with Ult cass, etc...)
are all waiting for one more piece to get here (fr der) before they go on.

Once that fr der is in, the bike gets built and I will post the porn!
