Water Polo Anyone?
I've got a few friends who are big water polo players, I myself had never done it until last night when they convinced me to join in on one of their club team practices. As I have been riding for a while and long distances and have been doing quite well I thought I could hang once I got in the water and holy S*** was I wrong, I was burnt out in about 15 min. Any of you roadies have water polo experience?

I would never play water polo. It would cause me to build arm muscle which would weigh me down when cycling.

I have done all sorts of athletics and water polo is by far the most taxing sport I have ever experienced. Body fat? There's no floating around in water polo. The more muscles the better.

Teaching egg beater is not easy. Some people have a really hard time picking it up.
Don't point your feet. You should feel that you're pushing water with the inside of your foot and ankle. So your feet should be out like a penguin during the downward push. Make nice circles I guess by pushing out and bringing your foot back in towards your bum.
Yeah, there's no floating around in water polo. You're always swimming, wrestling for the ball or to protect it, grabbing your opponent to get an advantage

I played 4 years in high school, and played club polo in grad school. Mens club season is going on right now and I miss it.

Forget about playing polo and just start swimming to build up your endurance and your speed, that's all the matters... the better swimmer will win.
as far as the egg-beat kick. The way I learned is imagine that there are walls on the sides of your feet, start by just simply "kicking the walls" one leg at a time kick to one side "like you're kicking down a wall" then the other, eventually you'll get comfortable with this and start twisting your ankle to create the egg-beat effect.
