Where do you park your bike when buying food/water?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another one for taking bike with me. Never asked if I was allowed to, and never had a shop tell me I couldn't!

If I'm leaving my bike outside, often I'll shift it into top gear, without following through, so if anyone jumps on it, they'll have to contend with a crunchy mess that rapidly gets to 4:1 if it doesn't just jam up.

I carry a small cable lock. I weigh about 200lbs. Another pound or two doesn't really matter.

No stores where I like to ride, so I have to carry any food I may need. I can get water in the State Park, either from the Park Office or one of the outdoor spigots in the campground.

Double ditto.... Helps a lot that my bike is basically worthless on the market. I toss the lights and pump into a bag and walk the bags in.

My bikes have indeed been in a lot of restrooms. Luckily, all of the public facilities 'round here are newer and ADA compliant, so generally if there's a single, double-sided restroom (one women's, one men's) the room will be at least 10' x 6'.

It takes me 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the Pacific Ocean, and I usually don't need a pitstop on the way there, so I'm using restrooms along the coastline more than any others, or some in the local parks. We've got really big restrooms out here.

Some of them are even clean. Not many, but some.

I always prop the bike outside on the storefront. If I feel a little leery, I either won't stop there or just fasten my helmet around the wheels. I will also try to shift into big/small to make it a little tougher for someone to ride away with it.

if neighbourhood is sketchy, which are few here in New York i take the bike in with me, especially if the store is bigger, for smaller deli type of situations ask the counter dude and leave it somewhere up front. otherwise i lock with my helmet front wheel; usually when going for a cup somewhere ..
so far didnt have problems (knock knock)
best!

This reminds of of my favorite "bike in the store" stories. One of the mechanics at the LBS is a BMX guy, been riding 20"/24" for ages. He was wheeling his bike into a local supermarket, and someone in the store said something along the lines of, "Sir! You cannot bring that bike in here!" So he went to the entrance, got a shopping cart, and put his bike in the cart. No problems from there on.

If this question were presented in Japan, it would be a non-starter

Stopped to use the restroom and get a bottle of water on last night’s ride and left my bike leaned against the building. It was a good neighborhood but I was still anxious. Also, the clerk who may be the manager was not too friendly towards this sweaty cyclist but I may have been self conscious.

In my area, people bring their dogs into every store. If I can't bring my bike into the store, I'll start sending photos to the health department.

Triggered. so true though.

What actually ticks me off is when, in my place of work, we do ask if one is a service animal, and what is the task it's trained to do (the 2 questions you are allowed to ask of a service animal) and the owner clearly struggles with the answer, trying to think of how to pass off their pet as a service dog.

I have been lobbying to add to our signage the fact that in California, service dog fraud is a crime (PC 365.7).

I've pulled my front wheel and carried it in with me in the past.

I don't stop. Three liter camelbak and 30 pounds of body fat, the only reason to stop is if my legs give out. That's over 40 miles with 1,800 feet of climbing, so it's not common for me to stop.
