Shimano IGH cassette arm wear
My Alfine 8 hub has done almost 40,000 miles over 10 years using annual oil bath maintainance. Recently the lower gears have started slipping under strong pedalling. The yellow tabs line up in 4th gear so I was wondering if the cassette arm is worn, specifically the cable run which may be pulling less cable as the curved cable guide wears.
Am I on the right track? Is there another cause of slipping which feels like pawls crunching over each other until they bite.
The sprocket , chain and cable have been replaced recently.
Any ideas welcome.

What do you call a 'cassette arm'?, show a parts diagram and indicate the part number that refers to.

One way to tell for sure would be to install a new cassette joint and see if the problem persists.
At 40,000 miles, it's possible the pawls are worn as well as the internal splines they engage on the sun gears. Might be time to bite the bullet and buy a new internal assembly.
Still cheaper than chain and cassette replacements on a Ultegra or XT group set which you would have had to do a few times over by now.

The 7000 model is high normal and the cassette joint routes the cable over the top. older models are low normal with the cable routed from the bottom.

Not my hub so I'm trying to visualize, its function.., Drive Side, ?
Gear Cable housing End seats in the end of that arm, until the wheel is removed, like to mend a puncture?

Just my experiences...if you replace your cable and cable housing as often as I had to (every year), then I would suggest slowly turning the adjustment out until the skipping stops (took almost a full 360° turn in my case). Lining up the dots is just a starting point for me, BUT I only had a skipping problem when shifting up to 5th (over 30k on my 8-speed hub and that includes religious momentarily not pedaling when shifting).
That being said, the various springs and pawls will wear out sooner or later no matter how well or often you service your hub. Only seen replacement parts listed at European sites, my local U.S. based LBS's are unable to order the parts. You have to decide if it is less expensive to buy replacement parts or a new hub depending on which country you live in after figuring in shipping and/or taxes.
