Slight buzz. Is it a crack?

I have a late 70s Gios Torino. The bike is all original except for the clipless pedals. It rides solid and true; no shakes or rattles. However, there is a slight buzz I can hear. It is very faint but it's there. I can't seem to locate it with the naked eye. Could this be a crack in the frame? If so, any suggestions on where to look? Even if I find it, what are my options? I love the bike. Not planning on parting with it. Just want to be sure I'm doing what I can to maintain it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Very doubtful it's a frame crack.

Number one is a valve base nut being loose. number two is a cable/casing vibrating against something. Three might be a loose spoke. Four is a bar end plug that has a broken tab floating in the bars.

Nice bike BTW. Andy

Thank you. Eases my mind considerably. I will check the areas you noted.

There are other possibilities for a buzzy sound during riding. perhaps having a more experienced person ride the bike might shorten the search. Andy

I had a buzzing sound on one of my bikes that drove me nuts. It turned out to be the Silca pump.

I had a similar situation. But it ended up being too much caffine!

Good list -- I'd second all that, including the bike compliment, and add the bottle cage bolts as a place to check.

You can look around your frame and see if it's cracking. If it were cracked enough to cause a vibration, one of the tubes would have to be about ready to let go, so it wouldn't be hiding under the paint. I can all but guarantee it's something else.

Brake levers can do that, either with integrated shifters or not. I've have it, never figured out how to correct it. Like you, only on quiet smooth roads with no wind. So now that I know what is going on and it's harmless, I am able to ignore it.

Remove the frame mounted pump and see if the buzz goes away. It looks as if the handle portion of the pump is hitting on the frame slightly. The handle is a thin metal, and could very well buzz if it is vibrating against the frame.

Did the once over and could not find cracks. Also checked the suggested list and all seems to be in order. Might be the pump or the bar end since I recently re-wrapped the bars. My first attempt with cork tape. I'm sure that's the issue. The bike is very smooth riding otherwise. It has been sitting in a garage for the last fifteen or so years. Lightly disassemble, cleaned and reassembled it. It amazes me how well it operates being 40+ years old. Practically all components are original. I bought it in Okinawa in 1986 while serving in the Marine Corps. Cool little bike.

If you think it might be the pump then ride the bike and when you hear the buzzing remove the pump and if the buzzing goes away you'll know it's the pump.

Could it be the tires buzzing alone the road surface?

Cheers

Also make sure the bottle cage is bolted tight and that it grips the bottle tightly.
