Pics of my saturday century - Oregon Gorge
This saturday a few guys and I joined our friend for his annual birthday century. We rode from Portland across to Washington, East along the Gorge, crossed the Bridge of the Gods, and came back on the old Columbia Highway. There's a lot of beautiful places in the world, but there's really something special about the Northwest U.S. to me. It truly rivals anything else I've seen...I feel so lucky to live here.
The start of the Washington side:
Steady climbing...
Crossing the Gorge to the Oregon side:
Taking in the view:
Even hiking up some stairs 'cross style:
..And getting in a little bike-path action. (Oregon side is more beautiful, but that might be a biased opinion).
Roll on Columbia!

At the top of the climb up Crown Point:
On the final stretch along Marine Drive:
Got a flat at mile 98, had to jog 2 miles to the MAX (light rail) to get home... making it an even 100 miles.

I've always wanted to live in the Pacific NW and your photos don't lessen that desire...

Awesome photos. Makes me want to drive up the hour and half and do the ride. How was traffic on the cars allowed portion?

I am from SE WA state. While that is the opposite side of Washington I just love that area. Especially since the area I am from is full of tumbleweeds. Too bad I did not pick up cycling until I moved to Denver. That looks like fun.

Just to clarify, I did bring tubes/patches, but was relying on one of the others for a pump. The flat of course happened right at the end just after I'd split up with the group heading home. From now on I'm always carrying one...
And nope, I wasn't at the Monster Metric- I can't say I've seen anyone else riding one around here, though.
And yeah, my buddy's funky reverse-aero-drop bars serve no real useful purpose, but they are always a source of interest and conversation.

Nice photos!! Being a former flight attendant for Alaska Airlines, have a soft spot in my heart for the PacNW - definitely going up there in June/July for some riding - hopefully I can hook up w/ some BF folks for a ride or few.

Nice looking ride. Any wind in your face on the return?
I'm from SE WA and I ride a loop from Maryhill Museum once a year (80 mi +/-). HWY 14 > HWY 97 > HW142 > HWY14. Great mountain views. Not nearly as much vegetation. We typically get a really big push from the wind coming east on HWY14. I'm always happy to have it at my back.
