Lately I've been exploring different red wines. I signed up for a Laithwaite's subscription with a Nat Geo coupon for free shipping- 'cause what the heck do I know about wine, I just wanted to try some different stuff than what is offered at my local grocery store. I really liked the Stones and Bones blend from Portugal in the first shipment. 6 more bottles of different varieties are (hopefully) set to be delivered next week.
BITD one of the vets I worked for was old-school country. During a rash of antifreeze poisonings during one summer, for one particularly bad case she pulled out a 200 proof bottle of alcohol from the top shelf in the treatment area. A slow drip over several hours counteracted enough of the antifreeze for further treatment to be effective. Wish I could remember more about that, but I was seventeen and it was my first clinic job. I do remember getting a little light headed when the bottle opened.

My replacement Lakes are supposed to be delivered today. If they show up soon and if they fit well, I'm thinking that I'll take the bike out for a little ride and stop at an LBS for cleats and bottle cages. The rest of the family seems to be content with pandemic vegging.

That's the price on the secondary market (seriously... there's a secondary market for this stuff. It's wild). The retail, which is what these lucky Costco shoppers supposedly paid, is $120 and up, depending upon variety. I've also heard that some liquor stores have lotteries for dibs on bottles of Pappy when they come in.

... and to balance out the whiskey discussion, these ingredients make three 8 oz servings of tasty and uber-nutritious juice.
Drink this early in the day so as not to interfere with your whiskey later.

I see the Pappy thing as mostly hype and prestige, it can't possible taste good enough to justify the price. If I were even to find a place that could serve me a pour, how much would that be, $40-50? $100?

Bike content: Chain #2 is currently taking a wax bath. I never finished cleaning it the other week, so I took care of that this morning so that it's ready to go whenever Chain #1 starts making noise.
Speaking of Chain #1 , I noticed a smidge of play with the rear hub (the end caps sometimes unscrew a tad) and it was so nice to be able to pull the wheel off and futz with it and not worry about getting my fingers blackened by the chain or cassette.

My wax , paraffin oil and slow cooker arrived yesterday, I'm waiting on the Teflon powder to get here. I might give the wet mix another look, see if I can get enough wax after evaporation. So far warning it only takes a second or 2 but you have to plan ahead.

Ya got me. I'd bet that it would vary quite a bit among the places that do have some on hand. Whatever it is, I wouldn't pay it.

Did you source some of the ultra-fine (1.6 microns, I want to say) Teflon that people seem to think is necessary? Or some of the more readily available stuff?

Bought mine on Amazon (CocinaCo) on January 22nd and I still haven't received it. I guess China Post is overwhelmed. Moreover, I'm not sure of the particle size as the title says 1.6um but the description says ''with an average size of 3um''. Oh well.

We had a good ride. We started as a united group but with 24 riders it was inevitable that we would split. We did so after the first rest stop, roughly 25 miles into the ride. It was sunny, deliciously cool, a little breezy, and 100% fun.

Fully-stocked wine cellar, over a pound of coffee beans, and a small community of rabbits living at the back of the property. I'm all set.
