Seriously loving my new commuter: early 90's Hard Rock scored on Craigslist with nice Araya wheels, just needed some TLC. Added 1.4" Michelin Wild Run'r slicks, Cascadia ATB fenders, Blackburn TRX-1 rack, and the Thule panniers mentioned earlier on here for such a steal of a deal -- they're indeed as great as everyone has already said.

nice looking bike. would you say it is similar to a Surly cross check? steel and all. How do you like it? I have a Fantom CX aluminium with steel fork. I wonder how much i would like an all steel bike. I rode a raleigh clubman and it was so smooth.

It's very similar to the cross check. The geometry is exactly the same. I think the only difference is the cross check has eyelets in the middle of the front fork. I really like it, the ride is so smooth, but I've only ever had steel bikes before.

These are not the best photos but I snapped them with my phone in the rain last night to see how my need spoke, fork and seat stay reflectors work.
I think they up the visibility level somewhat and my fred status. They are just cheap four inch plastic pieces from deal extreme. They snap on securely for now. They should be easy to remove also.
On the spoke and seat stay is just reflective tape I bought at MEC.
I also just installed a new set of Marathons so they have only seen one ride and have not gotten gunked up yet.

figured I'd have a little fun on the commute today and tomorrow- there's a tail light mounted inside the pumpkin so it works as a tail light. happy halloween!

yes it does, it worked well on my other bike, not so much on this one. I have since moved it to the front.

Thanks! and Yes! Lighting is on the way. I've had a Alfine dynamo front hub for about 6 months just waiting to get the motivation to lace it up. The $2 Chinese frog lights are doing great for now.. Most of the bike lanes here in Clearwater are well lit.

Got a saddle bag, led lights and valve caps. What do you guys think?

My commuter
I just upgraded the brakes to BB7, added a ShutterPro Dynamo and Luxos B light. The Dynamo setup was expensive, but now that it's in I'm happy I did it as I'm commuting very early in the dark in the morning and late at night. I definitely can tell cars are yielding to me during the commute. Cheers.
