Sore knees , how many days should I rest them before starting back ?
I usually ride through aches and pains , but this time it doesn’t seem to be working .
I got on a beach cruiser this afternoon and the outside of both knees was hurting before I reached the end of the driveway.

Do you know why they are sore? From riding bike? Kneeling? Some other activity? Gradually or suddenly? Do they hurt when you're not riding? It can be terribly hard to not ride - miss it so much. Is it enough to see a doctor?

Gradually, as I increased my daily riding . I think I’ve pushed a little too much too soon . I went from 3-4 mile rides to 8-10 mile daily rides .
Yes they hurt when I go up stairs more than level walking .
I had this problem when I first started back daily riding a few months ago , going from 2 mile rides , jumping to 5-8 mile rides in two weeks . Took a week off when I visited my granddaughters out of town and the knees got better , so I took it a little slower when I started back .
Lately I did a few back to back 9-10 mile rides and that’s when they started bothering me again .
I’m going to give it at least another couple days and then start back slowly and watch how I increase .
I think one of my problems may have been riding a different bike nearly everyday . I ride single speed Cruisers on my 5-6 mile days and either my Specialized Roll or my converted Hardrock on longer rides .

Yep, autumn is finally here. I actually put on a jacket a couple times last week. Off to a slow start, was going to set the goal for 150, but 100 might be more realistic. Riding 100 come the morning of November 2nd.

Goal: 100
10-09: 21.1

My knees were sore, and I got some physical therapy. There are muscles than you can strengthen that will help to overcome many types of knee pain - but definitely not all. I recommend seeing a doctor if it's keeping you from riding or otherwise impacting your day-to-day life and activities. My knee pain did respond to physical therapy. It has not eliminated it, but it is probably 70%-80% improved and no longer impacts my riding or day-to-day activities.

A company called Hinge Health (which I have no association with) provides PT via tablet using sensors - if a doctor determines that PT will help you. I got on a program through my health insurance company where they provided me with a tablet, sensors, resistance bands, etc. because it's cheaper for them to deliver PT that way, than to send me to in-person PT. It works out better for me because I can do it at my convenience and don't have to spend gas and time driving back and forth to a provider. I'm sure there are other companies that do this too, this just happens to be the one that my insurance covers.

Whatever the solution is, best wishes for quick healing and lots of miles and enjoyment ahead on the bicycle!
