Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Watteam Powerbeat and Shimano Tiagra compatability

Hello,
I an looking to get a power meter and the WatTeam offering seems to have good reviews and most importantly is in my price range. I don't know if it would be compatible with my bike as they only work on hollow aluminium cranks. I have Shimano Tiagra components but i do not know the model number. Their website has a list and I doesn't appear in the list. So probably not hollow? I don't want to upgrade my bike for this. if that's the case I may as well get PowerTap pedals if i need to upgrade all the components.

Check out the new power2max crank spider pm. $500 including rings and cranks, great accuracy, and no installation fuss at all. It's a pretty killer product.

The WatTeam certainly looks interesting with dual sided power under $500, but there's a lot of bits and bobs, user install, and connectors involved. I like my PMs to be all-in-one affairs. I'm a very happy owner of two power2max Type S power meters, and do not hesitate to recommend them. As seattlebuzz mentioned, they are currently giving away Praxis rings and FSA Gossamer arms right now-- the spider alone is $549, and you can get the Type S with the aforementioned rings and arms for, you guessed it, $549.

Even if you get the power2max spider alone for Rotor or FSA and buy a crankset separately, still less than the cost of dual-sided PowerTap pedals.

After looking into the power2max and watching a couple more reviews of different power meters, I like what I see and it also has a reasonable price. They have many options but I don't know how to figure out what my bike dimensions (frame bottom bracket, crank length, bolt chain diameter).

I may need to have my bike shop tell me if it is compatible before I order. I am not mechanically savvy with bikes . I seems like there is no support for my bike after reading a couple posts. It's a 2012 Specialized Secter Elite with Shimano Tiagra components.

Thanks for pointing that one out though.
