Sorry, but I have been looking for one of these for a good while now, with no luck.... They're either too highly priced, too beat up, or just a bare frame.,,,,BD

This one is local to me but I just can't justify having three drop bar MTBs.
Schwinn Cimarron Bike
Been up a while, not sure if its still available.

EDIT: Just remembered I have three, so I guess I can't justify 4.

Just a question, how much do all of your drop bar MTBs weigh? I'm simply curious at how my 25.5 lb creation stacks up.

Mine's looking to be 28-30#. It's a pretty heavy plain-gauge cromo frame, though, probably never meant to be light.

My 23" Panasonic Pro-ATB is at 33# with rear and front platform racks and 2" Continental travel contact tires. I was a bit disappointed in that when I took it off the hanging digital scale but for use as a touring bike it isn't that big of a factor. It rolls very nicely for that weight.

The 20" frame is DB lugged bike which by itself is a little over 25 on the bathroom scale. True when I add bag saddle bag and full water bottle it goes up. That's why I put the + there

The fenders are cheap alloy and I don't have racks on it.

I was kind of disappointed myself when I found out my bike weighed 28#. It still is a heck of s lot lighter than my "station wagon" which tips the scale at over 40#. It ain't easy putting on the bike rack.

My mistake, 3speed, I didn't see the image well. A front pack is on my short list for my next bag. Is yours a classic Cannondale?

Hah! My conversion weighs about 40# all up w. lock, dynamo lights, fenders, rear rack, basket, Schwable Big Apple 2.0 tires.. And I always thought that was fine - it's a practical go anywhere, do anything bike (in any weather!) But then I recently picked up my first road bike, a vintage steel affair, that weighs a scant 22# - I feel like I'm flying, it's so fun! But now my conversion feels like a tank

Like a full sized SUV, a drop bar MTB will go anywhere in complete comfort, but it also takes a lot of energy to move all that weight. My road bike is more like a two seat sports car: light, nimble, fun to toss around.

I always recall the rider I met in Utah, that was riding cross country (he started in Washington DC). Anyway, he was on a Surly Long Haul Trucker. He told me fully loaded with his gear, but with no water, his bike weighed 95 pounds! He was riding unsupported, and camping all the way. Figure he was starting with a 26 pound bike. And the day before I met him, he crossed the desert, 70 miles of no services. I think he was carrying at least 3 gallons of water. If so, add 25 pounds to that weight.

The next day, I met him 110 miles away. He had ridden across two mountain passes, plus a lot of elevation change too. I was on my Honda Goldwing.....

Early in this thread, I got my Schwinn Cimarron down under 26 pounds, with most of the original drivetrain (1987 Shimano Deore XT). Most of the savings came from wheels, tires, saddle and pedals. I started at 31 pounds. Just wanted to see how low I could get it when starting with a relatively heavy frame. My wife's 1992 Paramount Series 70, with a Tange Prestige frame, would be a lot easier to get down in weight.

Sorry, back in town after a few days gone.

Yes, the classic Cannondale in red. Love the way it sits between the SR. randonneur bars !

Built this one up on the cheap, and it's a pretty nice ride. Although the handlebars cracked on me on the first real ride.

No wreck, fortunately. When I got home, I was taking a look at the bars, and there's about a 3 inch long crack running lengthwise from the clamp out to where the tape starts--I wanted to think it was just a scratch, but it sure wasn't there when I started my ride. Oh well, the bars were a bit too narrow anyway.

I started with this 89 Trek 950 I picked up off Ebay this summer...

I changed out a bunch of parts and added drop bars. I should add that I'm a vintage BMX guy and this is my first attempt at building anything with gears.... so please don't be too critical of my first attempt here. I got it all together, just working on all the adjustments now.

Original equipment remaining - F/F, headset, seat post & binder bolt, bottom bracket, front derailleur and wheel set.

I changed everything else out.

Pasela 26x1.75
Nitto Rando Bars
Velo Orange Quill Adaptor and Threadless Stem
NOS Shimano 7 Speed Bar End Shifters
Deore Cranks with SG gears
Shimano MB-732 Brakes
Shimano PD-730 Pedals
Shimano RD-M735 Rear Derailleur
Salsa Skewers
Tektro 540 Levers
Turbo Saddle
Sram Chain
And probably a couple things I left out.

Not exactly an MTB, but it did have MTB shifters, brakes and 26x2.1" tires. Rollin' pretty nicely with road wheels, tires, bars, shifters, brakes!
