Raleigh Record value?

I was given a 1975 Raleigh Record, their bottom of the line road bike at the time. In fairly nice original "in-the-garage" condition except for a dent in the top tube. My size with the 23.5" frame, but not a bike I have room for nor want to keep.

So I decided to go through it and pass it along at the upcoming Twin Cities Bike Swap on February 12th.

Did the usual complete disassembly, clean, and reassemble replacing the shift/brake cables, brake pads, rim strips/tubes/tires, and bar wrap. So ready to ride.

Any suggestions on where I should start price-wise? Thanks in advance.

Nice job! Super clean! I hope you recoup your investment, as I imagine that prices won't be great at a February swap meet in Minnesota.

Since it is super clean fully serviced and ready to ride with new consumables I think you should be able to get $175 or so which is about the starting point for vintage bikes that are ready to go.

+1

Couple queries for the heronophiles -

Have never seen one of these from this time come through with french qr wheels. Always the five-piece solid axle SA-Raleigh hubs as shown in the catalogue page. Would think it necessary to open the fork slots to accommodate the hollow axle.

Odd mixed gear ensemble on both bike and catalogue photo. Bike has simplex gear ensemble but Huret dt cable stop clip. Catalogue photo shows a machine with Huret shifters, Huret model 700 front mech, Huret housing stop and Simplex rear mech. Such were the conditions of the bike boom!

Beautiful job and thanks for sharing it.

I'm with Oddjob on the pricing. You'd do better selling it on CL once the snow melts.

Not knowing the Minn market...but...assuming...I would agree with Oddjob and bikemig on pricing...in the ATL area, this might (???) get 175 in the summer...

As for the differences between this bike and the catalog based on the Ralieghs I have seen from 1975 they seem changed seem to have changed model specs during the middle of the year on there lesser models the ones from the first half the year had Hurret stuff and the second half Simplex.

Thanks all for you informative replies. I agree that $135 is likely on the strong side here on the "frozen tundra"... but then spring is just around the corner :-)

This bike needs to be ridden rather than gathering dust in a garage. I've had good success in the bike corral at the swap in the past. It is fun connecting with folks who want to ride C&V bikes. Primarily I'd like to pass it on, but a few extra $$ at the swap is a good thing.

BTW, the bike came new from the local bike shop with the pictured wheelset. But then they were known to do some component switching. My sister-in-law probably didn't know she was getting an upgrade ;-)

I did not see the top tube dent on my iPad Mini during the middle of the night.

More like $100 fmv.

We laughed way back at how Raleigh set these up for photos, seat slid all the way forward.

Interesting wheel replacement, the buyer may only appreciate the front being a quick release, and that may not be too helpful unless there is a brake cable release somewhere.

$175 would be very ambitious. Might be reasonable to the money and time invested, but rehabbing entry level bikes is not for profit. Dent in the top tube is a bummer, in a high visibility area.
