The original owner made a wise choice in entrusting the bike to you.

That is a really great bicycle. Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? Splendid. Does it have Nervex lugs and B.B? Is the seatpost a Simplex Super LJ?
Also, I noticed that the rear (shift) cable guide appears to be a white plastic. I had not seen a plastic cable guide on a bike of that era before. I just wanted to mention that.
I like where you put your brass bell. That's where I put mine on my 56' Grubb.

BTW: the pictures don't do the bike justice. I saw this bike in person at the vintage show a couple of weekends back and @browngw did a remarkable job cleaning and polishing....it looks spectacular in real life.

Kudos again. Those wheels are special. And lightweight.

I wish I had the creative instincts to say to myself, 'Today, I'll build up a royal purple and robins egg blue bike'. It's smashing.

Flat steel lugs, no markings, funny little ear? on back of front lugs. Resilion hubs (made in England) Seatpost, brakes, bars are GB.

Bottom bracket is Bayliss Wiley. Bell is Portland Design Works. Cranks are Williams.

No plastic parts on DT shifter or Benelux RD.

No build report on this? Pics please! Anything that old and "fun" should always be shared!

And yes the Sun has risen to heights we live for on these forums. Well done, stunning find!

When I find more time I will show some more of the build part. Because I was given the bike by the original purchaser, knew its history, past maintenance etc. it has been more a long overdue "annual" maintenance. I did decide to change the cracking and yellowed cable housings, the hardened tires (installed in the 80's at Brant Cycle in Burlington ON and the foamy black bar tape (not original) Many, many hours of scraping, rubbing old dried oils and dirt was by far the largest part of the job. After cleaning the chain (no rust) I bought a Park Chain Wear Indicator and realized the chain was badly stretched/worn. A new 8speed SRAM fit fine but the RD was still very noisy. Paint was touched up with "Sinful Colors" nail polish. The Wrights SUN saddle was treated to some Proofide. The MEC Audax Handlebar bag makes a great saddle bag and looks good with the brown cotton bartape purchased years ago. Wish I had bought more!

I will include that in a separate post for those who may have similar problems with "toothless" jockeys.

The Sun had some good rides this past summer and is riding on new Panaracer Pasela PT 27x1 1/4 rubber. Still thinking of trying to find the bits to install a double chain ring setup.

The Sun Sets

A final chapter in my custody of the 1958 Sun Cresta. Last week it found a new home with a fellow enthusiast who has promised to take good care of it. On numerous visits to my shop over the past couple of years he has voiced a desire to own it. Considering how few times I found myself wanting to ride it, I relented and we came to an agreement. I was always torn between preserving it and modifying it with lower gearing to suit my riding style.

I am sure it will be appreciated by its new owner Rob.

Sun Identification

Sorry for bumping this thread, but does any one know if Sun made a single speed model back in the day, it would be an earlier model with the Diamond type head badge with a rivet either side to hold it on and an oil filler cap by the crank shaft. I’ll post photos once pass 10 posts of the possible bike.

So gorgeous!

Ya know, I would never think to put those two colors together for a paint job. But they go together very nicely.

I think the headbadge you describe was in use until sometime in the 30's. At that time most bikes were single speed models that could be upgraded to three or five speeds. The oil port was common until about 1960.

Tell us more, a little at a time, until you can post photos. Sounds cool.
