Bottecchia I.D. Help
A friend of mine is getting rid of her bike and is offering it to me for free from all the way in New Jersey. The bike was given to her some years ago and she doesn't know the model and neither do I. I tried to dig but the closest I could find was a Team Malvern or an SLX. I'm no Italian bike expert. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth all the shipping and packing fees.
Thanks in advance!
Anyway, on to the photos:

Gotta luv how folks take peechas o' boykes!
We receive four and all are from the NDS - como normale.
Looks like we are in the early to mid eighties here.
Gipiemme Crono Sprint chainset is parallel to Camapg NR and nice equipment.
Modolo resin shift levers.
A.L. Colombo tube set.
BOCAMA lugset.
Frame looks too small for you if your Lambert is a good fit.
Rear portion of TT has been taped over - you might wish to inquire of your friend what is going on there...
Shall look forward to reading the observations of the experts...

I'm seeing real heavy parts wear and a replacement wheelset so this one has been road a lot. That plus the rust on the chrome would make me suggest you pass on this one great bike but it has seen better days and likely just isn't worth the cost of shipping and full restoration with quality vintage correct components

Bottecchia model names have always been a puzzle to me too. But, according to T-Mar, top of the line Bottecchia's don't have model names. From my understanding they would call this a Bottechia, ______ (component group) __________ (frame type). That's it, that's all, done deal. If it's got an SLX frame then, it's a valuable item. I would definitely accept that as a gift. If it doesn't fit you then you could trade or sell it for something that does. Be good. Have fun.

Frame has many similarities to a Bottecchia Team Malvor.

The combination of a front derailleur hanger, Portacatena dropouts and only a single set of bottle bosses, places this circa 1982-1983. The tubeset is Columbus SL and based on the front derailleur hanger should be the full set, as opposed to just tretubi. Component comprise a range of eras and levels. The livery used on this bicycle was first employed by Team SCIC, circa 1978. However, given the apparent era, it could be either Hoonved-Bottecchia (1982) or Malvor-Bottechia (1983). Value could swing quite a bit depending on the the derailleurs and hubset. The former look like they could be Campagnolo models, though the front doesn't appear to be Super Record.

Id probably take a chance and pony up for the shipping to give that rascal a new home -- IT could clean up really nice with a bit of effort

It looks to possibly be a nice uprated version of their "Professional SL" model from the 80's (unless it is a precursor?).
It adds more exposed chrome at the head and seat lugs and the rear triangle that usually just appears on their top SLX tubed model. Uprated maybe because it could be a team replica.
There's a good chance that most of that rust will come off nicely with the proper cleaning, which makes it worth it to get the bike, as long you are not way upsidown after shipping cost is factored in. Replacement decals are really east to find for this one.
