IIRC, from circulating tubeset tables I've read through the years, the weight of the SV980 tubset is comaprable to what the Reynold 753 weighs in at. but maybe the special heat treatment of the 753 makes it stiffer. SV980 also features a rifled head or steerer tube (can't remember exactly which one.)
So you can maybe consider the SV980 as falling in between Reynolds 531 and 753.

Here's pics of my modded up 84 PSV for reference:

It's with me in SF currently,.....and no, it's never treated like a "Huffy"..........

If we're sharing SV980 photos

Not the best backdrop - '84 PSV 60 cm, original drivetrain. My dad put a lot of miles on this. I had an identical 52 cm version.

Too bad this is a SV980 thread or I'd post my SV983 bike.

eBay, but then that was back in 2011... The white ergonomic Modolo hoods are quite scarce. The gum colored versions are out there now in 2019.

The pictured PSN-10T now is ridden all over Minneapolis by my son, and has been upgraded to Campy Triomphe with a tubular wheel set.

BTW, rebuilt a friend's PSN-10T over last winter and now it is hanging in his shop. I really like that vintage SV980 frame set.

ARGH! Zombie Thread!

1988 US Peugeot brochure showing the Biarritz model with SV 980 tubing. Note this bike has the same paint scheme as the OP's Triathlon bike along with chrome forks.

Both of my 1988 Biarritz bikes have the same SV 980 frame but in red and white with a painted fork like this Savoie model from the 1988 French catalog. Just the components are different . In France Peugeot continued to use the Px -xx model numbers along with model names into the late 80's. This was bike was listed as the PS 10 BW model.

I have a 1983 PSV-10 that I finished building from a partial bike this past spring. It's 55cm C-T with 55cm top tube. I bought it thinking that it would have the same ride with a slightly better fit than my 56cm x 56cm Biarritz bike.

I was surprised at the difference. The handling is just about the same and they're both made of SV 980 but the Biarritz is much smoother riding. Both models have the same seat and head tube angles.

The only differences that I can find besides the 10cm shorter seat and head tubes is the BB is 1/4" higher on the PSV-10. The stem is 10mm shorter too.

PSV-10 looking out the Golden Gate

One other thing, Peugeot standardized the geometries on their performance models around 1985??? That was about the time they switched from the Px-xx numbers to model names in the US market.

This frame geometry chart is from the 1988 US Peugeot brochure. It lists the top 4 models offered in the US that year.

'83 PSV-10 export with some changes. (The Vito Cheeso tubulars will soon be replaced for FMB's.)

JPR post topped with a Perache 027. The CLB brakeset is a major improvement over the Weinmann 500 series. Maillard 700 Pro w/ freewheel kit and Mavic GP4 hoops. Happy to find NOS for all. Huret Jubilee on the rear is what these bikes should have had all along.
